Fook! Speakers don't fit!
****! Speakers don't fit!
I got these the other week.
Brought them to my Garage to fit them in and they won't go in. I have to trim the metal door panel to do so which i don't
The actual speak frame at the back don't go in properly even with spacers - the speakers are gonna be too wide to fit in.
This is the list of speakers i was chosing.
Speakers
Do you have any of them and which one will actually fit.
NOTE: This is for a UK spec Civic 03 1.4i but i'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. BTW, are the back speakers 6 1/2 as well?

I believe rear speakers in a sedan are 6.5, but in a coupe they are 6x9

Ahh coaxials
Components are the 3-piece set including 6.5" driver, tweeter, and xover
The reason I ask is that spacers for a 7gen are included with the component set.

Well the good news was that i removed my back stock speakers (6 1/2 btw) and they fit in just perfectly. Only 2/3 screw holes fit easily. The 3rd is a no go. But i an't too bothered. The reason why they didn't fit was becuase the frame was too big to fit in the door panel. The actual width doesn't fit in properly. I will need to go out and but some thinner speakers.
But was this speaker set a good set to go with? Whats the differance between the 2way and 3 way. Would i have got more out with a 3 way.
And yeah i need a new head unit to go with the speakers, the stock HD just isn't making good use of the new rear speakers.
I DID MY FIRST CAR MOD!

2 way = two separate speakers, almost always woofer + tweeter.
3 way = three speakers, generally woofer + tweeter + supertweeter, I believe. Sometimes woofer + midbass + tweeter. I don't know which it is for the specific model you are looking at.
IMHO "3 way" (and especially "4 way") is mostly just a gimmicky term to try to make people think the speakers are better.

yeah, i don't think a 3 way is necessary at all, I got a set of cheap 3 ways from a member here and the highs seemed extremely piercing, i turned my treble down a lot to be comfortable
A lot of people (me included) don't even use their back speakers. Unless you have money to burn, I wouldn't bother amping your back speakers. Actually, even if you have money to burn it may not be the best idea. Rear speakers may muddy up the sound (at least, without proper imaging/EQing). But I can't tell you for sure one way or the other, because I haven't ever had both pairs amped.

O GOD...u have to amp all 4 speakers. thats the way to go.
i have infinity kappa series speakers amped...and wow its heaven up in my car.
o yea about ur fitting...yes it will fit....i got my kappa to fit...and my kappa its alot thicker....so just keep brainstorming.
Well i couldn't just pack them up and have it sent back to the store. God knows how long it gonna take to reach them and then credit the money to my account. To much hassel. Well i've got the back speakers upgraded. And its gonna be wicked once i upgrade the front ones with new HD and amp.
So you lot say you upgraded everything and left your back speakers as stock?

I used to leave the rears on a bit for what is called "rear fill," but it just sounds better with only my front speakers on.
If you take a look at high end stereos you'll notice that there are two speakers. More than two speakers is just the marketing department at work, when it comes to listening to music. CDs don't (yet?) have more than two channels. All that's going to happen if you have more than two speakers is the same thing is going to come out of two speakers, reaching your ears at slightly different times, resulting in (generally) a loss in sound quality.
If you take a look at studio monitors, you'll notice that they come in pairs as well. This is because in the studio -- where you want your sound to be extremely accurate -- more than two monitors just adds more sound waves you have to deal with while trying to get your sound to be accurate. In the car, you probably won't notice a big difference, because the sound waves will be bouncing around everywhere, and you aren't going to get a very accurate sound anyway. But still, adding more than two speakers won't add to the SQ, but it may well degrade it.
You'll find if you install just front speakers and an amp that the sound fills the whole car. You won't miss the back speakers.

Then again, if you are just after getting your car to be as loud as possible, more speakers = more surface area = (very generally speaking) louder. So if what you seek is loudness, yeah, more speakers is "better."
My recommendation would be to either try to fit those guys in the front again (cut the metal if you have to), or send them back and get ones that will fit. If you are going to keep them, again I recommend just running the rears off the HU, unless you have money to burn. And if you do have money to burn, don't just stop at rear speakers. Having everything properly imaged, get an EQ, and get the sound to be as flat as possible when it reaches your ear.
Hope this is helpful...
Hey thanks for the info. Mate. A good post. I'm totally new to this speaker thing. I think i'll save myself some hassle and just leave the speakers at the back. I've read your opinion and i'm happy with what you said. The speakers cost me £65 so thats $136. Right now i'm not too bothered about wasting my speakers. In the end they will come to some use (e.g. Smoeone might want to buy it off me) I'm not going to take it to the garage and have them trim my door panel. To me thats not an option. I'll have to get thinner 2 way coaixal speakers if i want to ugrade my front speakers.
But before i do that i think i'll need to get a CD HD changer. I don't want MP3 as it will be too hard to find songs. CD's are just fine
Once i get the speakers and headunit at a later date i'll see if the amp and sub is needed.
You know how hard it is to find information about UK spec Civics. Alot of the website and guides are from the states, so it questions my mines "is it as easy as that!?"
I feel that my replace upgrade rear speakers are not a complete lost.

IMO, a more powerful amp pushing the speakers will give a better dynamic range and clearer sound, but overpowering (w/respect to RMS) doesn't do much good to the speaker due to the heat dissipation. Underpower, in general, would just be not able to play as loud as a higher-power UNLESS you are clipping the amp.
Look at the sensitivity if you are to push it by factory radio, which is around 5W per channel....
If a speaker has sensitivity of 93dB, means that for 1 Watt of power it can play 87dB, need 2 Watt for 90, 4 for 93, 8 for 96, 16 for 99, 32 for 102, 64 for 105.

is it just me or the new typeE speakers look a lot like the old alpine sps series?
the 6.5" ones look like the sps-1629S
here are some pictures of the older sps-1629(same as sps-1629s but without the silver paint on the tweeter)

btw, the old sps ones weren't so great...i didnt like them so much...

What you are looking at will be around 18x4 RMS if that's 50x4 max.
Alpine V-Drive hybrid head unit is around 23Wx4 to 27Wx4(1%THD, 80dB S/N, 60Wx4 MAX), which is also not much, and not sounding too good compared to a real external amp. If this is used, be sure to get a 10-gauge wire connected to the battery, otherwise, the result may be catastrophic(I burnt the ICU on my previous Prelude).
IMO, even a 20x2 RMS amp will give you much clear sound than pushing it from head unit.
Anyway, for rear fill that's more than enough.
Be sure not to use ANY tweeter for rear fill, midrange only, 500~5000 bandpass will give you a nice result.
