A/T plastic shift panel thingy on center console
A/T plastic shift panel thingy on center console
on an automatic transmission civic, theres a piece of glass or plastic (is it glass or is it plastic??? i cant tell!) that says "P R N D D3 2" where the actual shifter is. to light up this display at night is by the help of a simple light bulb under this plate. thing is, i wanna replace this with two red LED's so do i just cut off the end of the bulb and use those two wires originally for the light for the power and ground of the LED's?
also, im trying to get rid of the PRNDD32 as well as all the paint off of the piece of plastic all together so would acetone (or finger nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol) cloud the plastic?
at radioshack, i found some LED's that have a wide emitting field, so that they dont concentrate all their light in one single spot. should i use these? im afraid of the two LED's too focussed and not having the light spread out evenly enough. also, clear or colored tipped LED's? differences?
oh and to explain why i wanna do this (get rid of PRNDD32 and just have a colored piece of plastic), i accidentally forgot to reconnect the light to the holder to light up this piece of plastic and it looks fine to me at night. dont need it cause ive got gauge displays to tell me what gear im in. so i thought if that entire thing lit up red/orange, it would look kinda cool
yeah its probably gonna lookwierd but eh, either way, its not gonna matter tooooo much....
thanks!
EDIT: my other current project right now (withthe help of Telly thanks!!!) is to wire my neons via a relay to the door triggers and a constant 12v source so that whenever the doors open, the neons will too. to connect this AT shift plate thingy lighting im doing, would i hook the negative wire of the light powersource (under the plastic plate) to the relay connection 85 with a 1amp diode inline (the negative of the door trigger is connected witha diode to relay connection 85 as well)?
