Question 2004 Civic + Aftermarket Head Unit

My friend just bought a 2004 Civic. He's going to get an aftermarket CD player installed on Saturday.

I know that with the 6th gen civics, the head unit controls the dome lighting and the keyless entry. Is this so with the 2004?

Just want to make sure. The people who are going to install his head unit want to charge him an arm and a leg for a "module" because he's getting an aftermarket unit and of course he still wants his keyless/dome light to work, so I just wanted to double check and make sure indeed the factory unit controls the lighting/keyless.

Thanks

If its anything like the 01-03, absolutely no "module" is needed. it's not like the 6th gens, its pretty straightforward - just a harness and a dash kit.

Dome lighting and keyless entry are not controlled by the factory deck, it is completely standalone this time around.

No module is needed, you can take the stock deck out ande everything WILL work fine.

that site has some nice pics. it is real easy to do. yank out the cigarette lighter plug assembly with some muscle. undo the 2 small screws that are behind holding the top ac/stereo assembly, get both hands in there and pop it out from behind. use a small flat head screwdriver to pry out the stubborn clips (like the top 2 clips near the vents).

i didn't need to remove the ac control unit mounted next to the stereo to get it out. once the entire assembly was popped off the dash, a small adjustable wrench did the job fine to get that one screw.

I've installed two aftermarket headunits in 6gens, one with keyless entry, and one without.

I didn't need any extra module what so ever, and the dome light lights and dims just like before, and the keyless entry works fine.

its not in all 6th gens, it was only 96-98 with keyless. they changed it in 99-00 so you dont have to worry about it in those years.
