16.9 stock with 100lbs weight reduction in my 04 vp
Went the track last night. Ran 16.9 on a 100lbs diet. Here's how it added up.
(Used non digital regular old dial scale, so not 100% accurate)
Spare tire 24lbs
Tire Iron and wheel cap 2lbs
Jack 3lbs
Trunk mat 1lbs
Trunk cardboard 7lbs
Drver's side back seat 12lbs
Passenger side back seat 7lbs
Backt seat 8lbs
Front Passenger seat 35 lbs
ESt. Total 100lbs
Last time out I ran 17.0. So I guess it is true about 100lbs = 1 10th off your time. I still think i could do better with more practice. I started launching at 3k and couldn't get any better than 17.0. Then I tried 4k and that produced my best times. Maybe if i launched at 5k i could have done better but prolly not a good idea on stock clutch so i didn't attempt it.
Any way heres the slip stats. I can't find the install cd for my scanner and to download it form hp it's 220mb. I have dial up for now so it isn't gonna happen. Sorry.
Best
R/T .503
60' 2.399
330 7.024
1/8 10.828
mph 64.29
1000 14.139
1/4 16.931
MPH 80.86
2nd best (red lighted, but only test and tune so who cares)
R/T .468
60' 2.499
330 7.149
1/8 10.958
MPH 64.81
1000 14.224
1/4 16.983
MPH 81.86
I wanted to hit 16.5 but im happy that i least broke 16's stock.
I raced an old 92ish camero rs both times. He said he had a 305. I would have him by a couple car lengths off the line then he cought up to me at the end and won by .0222. So close. He said his car was acting funny when we lined up. I think he was just embarrased that my little 4 banger could keep up with his big ol v8. It was fun as usual and can't wait to go again as soon as I order some goodies and shave another 100lbs.

A few more mods? I don't have any mods besides the 100lbs diet. Oh and the ones i just ordered today. AEM v2, Tanabe SMR with extension pipe, kamakaze header, plus new shoes Velox PG-5S with yoko parada 2. Gotta wait a week though. Damn ground shipping. Could'nt afford the Tein SS right now, so have to 4x4 for a few months. I also found a shop with a dyno. If i have any cash left over i would really like to do a before and after. But we'll see.
By the way that's one quick celica you got! Very nice.

Don't know much about muscle cars but he said he had a 305 in it. I thought that was a small V8 but it could be a 6? I know the newer RS's have a 6 not sure about this older boxy style. Ah but it doesn't really matter I had fun win or lose V8 or a 6.

yeah, it had a 305 and a peice of crap rear end. the cool thing is a motor swap isnt $5K like in our cars. The 305 ( a peice o shiot) and the mighty 350 use the EXACT same components and wiring harness. you just get a new badass block w/ built internals and bolt it in. A domestic magazine had one running in the 12s w/ a swap for like $2K.

Those 17s will slow you down ALOT, if your interested in speed, look into some 12 pound-ish 15s, acceleration & handling will greatly improve from stock, they will be cheaperthan 17s too.
Speaking from experience, refer to sig. Those are my track only wheels, & man I hate putting stocks back on for the street. Its like adding 200 lbs

The Velox's only weigh 12.5lbs. They are like the second lightest 17" wheel I could find.
It should be about the same overall weight as the stock 14" rim and tire but with better grip.

^The 12 pound 17s will still slow you down some. I cant explain it too well myself, i'll post what Zzyzx has to say on the matter.
^This guy really knows his stuff.
Not trying to be an ***, just trying to help you out. Really it comes down to preference in what you want to do with you car, if you want performance, get 15s, of you want style + performance, some 15s with the right tire & drop look pretty good IMO, but then theres always 16s.
Just something to think about, again not trying to be an ***.

THis is the big thing that the guys with the light weight 17s and 18+ forget, that even though the weight of the wheel is low, the rotational Inertia is much Higher with a Larger diamiter wheel = slower acceleration.... Because Acutal weight affects handling, Rotational Inertia affects acceleration.

a bigger wheel will have the total weight of the tire farther from the center of rotation, and a smaller wheel with a taller profile tire on it will spread that weight out more.
Look the the tire calculator. (stock 185/70-14, new 215/35-18) see the black area? thats the tire area of the 18. the white line on the inside is were the tire would start on the 14. so, more of the tire is closer to the center of rotation.

Test n Tune and from LA, so I'm suspecting NPR? :P
The best time I can seem to pull off was a 16.3. That was with an exhaust leak and some firestones going bald. Hope to be out at the track for the next midnight madness. I went to the one last weekend and screwed my car up. Grr..
Good times though if you're stock. I ran a 16.9 when mine was stock, but it was my first time at the track too and I only ran it once. You can probably do much better than that, keep trying at it.
BTW, I wuv my grocery getter :P.

i do know one thing, you have an eye for the christmas tree. case in point, your .503 R/T, da*n good! btw, you're intake/header/exhaust setup is going to net you ~ 5hp at the wheels. however, youre 17's are gonna slow ya down a bit. imo, dont expect much of an improvement in times

Anyway, I got the 02Si Rims and tires, man I love em... I sold my 18s <<<shows only! I can't get past 110 on those on flat road... but on my 15Si alloy wheels still pull all the way through after I past 125MPH <<< I got skurd and slowed down, my tire is rated to 100MPH only
if you have turbo and nitrous and heavy internals go with 17s...
but if you're NA... get 14 and drag radial tires
but if you want street performance... 15-16 and get z rated tires...
JUST MY .05
