Body Side Molding?
What is your opinion on the body side molding for the 04 coupe?
Sometimes when I look at my door it just seems plain like its missing something. On honda's site they show a nice almost flush against the door molding. The others I have seen have been a big bulge in the door
which I really don't want. The sedan has the one that sticks out a little and it fits the sedan more than it fits the coupe.

The one I saw on here

Prior to 01 Civic, the owners are paying top dollar to shave off that molding to make it look cleaner. Now that honda offers it as an optional equipment, consumers are wanting the molding back. This takes me back to the quote "we want what we dont have or cant have" saying.
I believe that it will ruin the car's clean look. dont tell me that you wont get a dent or ding, because you will. Why? Look where its installed. Its affixed not on the widest part of the body. The widest part of the door which sticks out and the first part of the door that gets hit. If you were to put that molding, it should be the highest peak of the door.
Inside the red box is where the car is prone to getting dent/dings and not where the molding is located.

Its more for looks than protection. I guess Ill have it put on if I dont like it Ill peel it off and throw it out. Ill always get door dings because some idiot will have to park 2 feet from my door and slam it into my car. I know what you mean my uncle has a 99 SI and his sticks way the fu&k out. Everytime I go to his house to clean it that stupid molding gets in the way when waxing. My mom has a 04 TL and the door is like the civic, it is just a flat plain panel. The ground kit on her car balances it out a little but I dont have the kit on mine so there is nothing really there to break the door up. I think my mind will change after some new wheels and a drop, either way its held on by adhesive and can easily be removed not damaging the car or any holes to fill. I wish they would make door panels dent resistant, I hate door dings!
Hmmm, that's weird... my side molding from Honda is mounted in the red area you stated. I've only seen it mounted lower on the sedans or accords, but on the coupes their mounted higher, at least mine was, just look at my pics. You can always tell them to mount it higher as it's just taped on.

Dont worry tho, for I have never seen a car with the molding located where its most vulnerable on dents/dings.

You see that aerodynamic line aligned with your door handle? That is the highest peak on your door. Somebody's door will hit that before it hits your molding.
Let me use your car model as an example. See the red line? That's where the molding should be at. Thats what I was referring to as 'highest peak' on your door.

I know, I know...that... its really hard to admit that the molding is useless for preventing dents/dings.
That's true, but did you also account for the thickness of the molding at it's current location? I haven't, but if it's thick enough it should pass further than the highest point of the door. This would stop "other's" whose edges are tall enough to touch our entire door flatly. If their door has small high/low (not lined up with our molding) tip surface area then it wouldn't really matter. Seriously, I just like the way it looks, no matter where it's placed you will get dings due variety of cars/door shapes/etc., but the area you highlighted definitely is where most happens and having the molding their would mitigate direct hits. As long as the molding is thick though tall flat door/shopping carts/etc. should pose no threat.

The molding is not even thick enough to stop the hits where I highlighted the pic from.
Look from the rear or front of your car and you'll see that the 'highest peak' still sticks out.
Okay, this is my last post on this thread.
