Age old Celica GT vs Civic question

Well, I found out the truth last week. I know there's been a lot of **** talking about our Civics beating up on Celicas and whatever... a lot of you got really angry at the fact that I mentioned that our cars are SLOW. Anywho, my brother ran his 140HP Celica GT @ Cayuga last weekend.

Good Mods:
Injen CAI
No-Name Exhaust

Bad Mods:
3 x 12" Subwoofers
Heavier 16" Rims (stock is the light 15")

He ran 15.6s... I haven't been actively reading/posting on here the last while, but I've yet to see any 7th Gen w/out nitros/forced-induction hit past 15.6s yet. In fact, I think most people with those two mods mentioned above are hitting low 16's only....

So for those of you on here who's claimed to have beaten Celicas, like I said, I believe you, but you only beat one who couldn't drive it.

Celica GT goes up against 2.0L RSX/CivicSiR, not our 1.7L Civics Si/LX.

yes, our civics are slow on straight, and i do believe that the celica GT is faster than Si, on drag though, but as for track or autox, i may say otherwise ^.^

i believe the fastest time STOCK for our civics posted on here is 15.8 i say it's still a driver's race between the GT and civic, with a slight advantage going to the GT

no offence too but our civic are just slow car period. it's a good car for commute from point A and B. It doesnt use a lot of gas but the built quality is nowhere near the 5th or 6th gen.

so i would use the 7th gen as a everyday car and rather buying something and made it as my toy

just my 2 cents

iamfob: right and wrong, rite about a daily car for commute and save gas, but wrong about just slow car period, can be a very great autox car with a good setup!

First: I ran a 15.7 on my first run with my 7thgen (back last year) Then I ran a 13.23 boosted

second: I beat a IS300 Over and Over again on the street back when I was all motor

Third: Iamfob what makes you think our civics are poorer quality as oppose to the 5th and 6th gens?

kept up and/or stayed ahead of a civic hatchback with a sir engine swap, a crx with some sort of engine swap... at shannonville.

i guess im just becoming a better driver.
might i had, iw as running on my heavy motegi rims.

still gatta test my time at the 1/4mile with lighter rims

i lagged MAJORLY when i hit third gear at the 1/4 mile with the rims i had...

EDIT: i stayed ahead of a INTEGRA TYPE R!!! at shannonville... but it was my friend's first time..... and yet, for some reason, i still stayed ahead of him on the straight away on the fabi track!!! guess i came out of the turn better.

If you are talking about both stock car than the celica is advantage...
But 7thgen civic is not that bad, If you put money in to it you can still make it fast...
No matter on the track or on the street... I have an automatic and I have taken out
celica's before... So i don't think they are that fast... But it's a good car... haha

UPDATE: Went to Cayuga again tonight... he ran up against a TransAm... obviously he lost, but ran an improved 15.5s... I'll be posting a video of it soon.

I don't know about 7thGen having more "potential" than Celicas...there seems to be a lot more parts for the Celica than our Civics Everything from TRD Superchargers to custom turbos are available.. even engine bore-out kits that bump it up to 2.0L! I know we have guys with custom turbos & K20 engine swaps though... but as far as slap-on bolt-on goodies, I think it's about even..

Celica also has crazy suspension upgrades... we're stuck with VERY few choices.

To this day, I am shocked at the lack of support for our cars. At least in the performance division... we probably have the biggest choice in projector headlamps, altezzas & bodykits though LOL!!

Note: I saw some funny looking American car run 7-sec flat!!! OMG I have never ever seen anything run that fast (bikes were doing 11's, souped up ones doing 9's)

Theres actually ALOT out there for are cars but people dont look... A company like TRD just rounds up a buch of companies and make products for a specific vehicle... There not usually the greatest o quality either to be honest... PLUS what do they offer that you can get for a civic besides the superchargers?

for my civic it has so many stupid defects than i never have when i own the 5th gen hatch.

- the material on the door panel is peeling off itself (i didnt peel it but it somehow started to peel at one corner nad now the whole passenger door is coming off)
- the driver seat been rocking like crazy and makes noise
- the wind noise
- the suspension aint that good (known fact)

but no offence to anyone i still love the 7th gen but i wouldnt dump all my money into it and make it fast. just drive it as a daily driver.

Agreed.

I think our Civics are the BEST LOOKING Civics, but probably the worst when it comes down to quality.

In fact, I think Honda as a whole is slipping a bit to save cost. They just had the biggest recall in their history... something like 350,000 vehicles are affected.. faulty automatic transmission.

I don't want to diss Honda, but this is my first one, and it's left a bad taste in my mouth. I sincerely thought about upgrading to a slightly used Acura 3.2CL-S but now I'm waiting for the 3.3L Toyota Solara to be available as pre-owned in about 2 years.

Until then, I pray to God my Civic won't have any more major repairs for at least 2 years....
