My Civic got in a small accident... and I wasn't even at fault!
On Monday... my Civic got in a small accident @ Kennedy & Finch at about 5:30 PM. I was in the way back home from that area and about to make a left turn onto Kennedy from Finch (to go southbound).. and I was merging into the left turn lane where the white dashed line opens up the lane (ahead of the solid yellow dashed median).
Anyways.. as I'm merging in, I feel my car's steering wheel suddenly jerk like a mother****er. I thought my car had fallen apart... I look to my left and there's a car that's struck my car!
The VW had drove on the yellow line to cut past cars so they could sit in the left turn lane and wait for the light! They were passing off the roadway!
This ****in' VW Golf or whatever drove right into my rim! (thank god not the body or I would have flipped out) Now my rim has a touch of red paint styling on it.
The VW suffered a slight crack on the bumper and missing paint.
Regardless... the man and woman in there.. both looking like they were 35 or so (both chinese) started to immediately accuse me of driving like ****. I told them to go screw themselves since I wasn't the one driving on the yellow line.
The wife started to cuss me out and said I had to pay for all the car's damages and stuff.. and they'd bring it to VW immediately. I told them what the ****, it wasn't my fault. The man insisted I pay them too.
After about 10 minutes of cussing me out and swearing at me in chinese (I understand chinese so I know exactly what they were saying)... I forked over $100 and told them to go **** themselves. Do you think I did the right thing? I don't believe I was at fault but I was conned into giving them $100.
I hope they die on cancer tomorrow!

WHY DID YOU DO THAT?
Like above, I'd tell them to **** themselves. And if it wasn't your fault, I would of called the PO so they could get charged or whatever.
But anyway good luck dude!

The logical TeLLy would have said - "either YOU fork over money to fix my rim or I'll start taking witnesses and I'll see you in court...or do you want to call our insurance companies now?"
The evil TeLLy would have been much less civil, and a lot more violently angry. Sadly, most of the time evil TeLLy kicks the living crap out of logical TeLLy.

For those unclear of the situation, we were both heading in the Westbound direction on Finch right at Kennedy. I was going to merge into the left turn lane where the dashed white lines open up the left turn lane but the son of a b1tch cut across the yellow artifical middle of the road island (so like a yellow dashed island in the middle of the road), he was driving on the painted island and smacked into me.
I should have told him to go screw himself. I feel so bad now

Maybe you can ask Narc in the legal section or just PM him. I wonder if you can get some kind of police report made or something so those idiots can't come back at you for anything more.

my dad just talked to me about this yesterday.... he said that it is illegal to drive b/w the yellow lines to get to a turning lane.... in your case you wouldve won.... call the cops next.. the vw wouldve got a ticket....
I hope you didnt actually say go screw yourself and why the hell did you give them money? Let me email you my address, I need money too and you dont have to get damage to your car to give me money.
First thing in a wreck (no such thing as accidents btw) is to NOT SAY ANYTHING except to ask for their license and insurance. Get their tag and a good description of the car. Write everything down, draw up a picture of what happened and a good description of th events.
If they refuse to give you the info, politely tell them that you will be calling the police. If they still refuse, call the police and report the accident, let them know the other party is not cooperating. Do so in front of them to let them know you mean business. If they leave at this point, it is now considered a hit and run. And you have their tag and description of their car. They will be in bigger trouble for that.
Next step is to call their insurance and report it. If you have police accident reports available (we do in convience stores) fill one out in detail and submit it. Next, call your insurance. Tell them what happened and such. Most insurance companies will fight it out for you. Mine (State Farm) will cover my damages if its the other parties fault and then go after them themselves. And they dont funk around, they mean business.
If you were in the right, you will be OK. BUt if you say anything aside from asking for their info, you can put yourself at risk for being sued etc.

in that case.. if THEY were driving on the yellow lines in the middle, it's they're fault!
yet, you didnt clearly check your blind spots.... BUT, you did everything legally.... THEY DIDNT.
well, better luck next time

If anything, they should have paid you since they were clearly at fault from your description. Too bad I wasn't around since I live in that area, I would have told them off for you.
Insurance wise you were at fault since you were turning/changing lanes and they were going straight. One instance I remember one guy(driver1) was making a left into his driveway and the guy(driver2) behind him tried to pass him on the left in oncoming traffic. Driver1 was at fault under insurance and driver2 was criminally at fault. Stupid insurance rules
If you don't beleive me phone your agent and ask about your "friend's" accident.
If you don't beleive me phone your agent and ask about your "friend's" accident. sorry to hear this man. damn those ppl are such jerks. i hate those ppl who are at fault then blame you with on the spot arguments.
my own experience was this
i go to the library to study. im getting out and this kid (with his dad, kid was like 12) throws his door into the body of my car. the father comes to the passenger side and starts by looking at the line and goes on to say "you're not in the middle of the spot, you're closer to my side". i take him behind the car and we measure it out and he admits he was wrong after measuring the distance on each side with my text book.
well, ya cant do anything abt this time unfortunately but for next time, if you feel you're right, stick with that and dont let ppl try screwing you over. sorry again man, this stuff really pisses me off!

even u dissed out $100, at least ask them signed something or signed an agreement saying i dont owe u **** and u dont owe me ****, etc to protect yourself in case those 2 chinese couples decided to bite your *** and call the insurance and file a claim. always write down the other party's vehicle information, colour, etc
but either way, u are both 50/50 fault according to your sketchy description. i guess learned your lesson and TRIPLE CHECK your blink spot next time when u ready to change lane.

I'd like to second that, I live downtown Toronto, and I have to say everybody drives pretty good down here, especially compared to scarborough, I swear everytime I drive there, I almost get hit, with people just switching lanes not checking they're blind spots...and things of that sort....

I'm driving in East York the other day (close to the Leaside Bridge.. that's all I'm saying).. and there are so many ******* drivers out there...
There's this person in a minivan driving about 50 down the street (1 lane street each way).. and I'm the third car in the row. The car behind the minivan was driven by 3 teenagers.. (forgot what kind of car it was), they just swerve out onto oncoming traffic to pass the minivan almost causing a head on accident with a car coming in the same direction. My friend and I just drove along shaking our heads.
This is insurance companies charge so much.. because of stupid teenagers.
