arm rest problem for the 2004 civic

do any of u 2004 civic owners have this problem? cuz for me the arm rest made me miss shift since the 2004 armrest is the top lid part to the center console compartment so i got used to shifting with my wrist. i was on the freeway going 70+ and this jeep was tailgating me so i was gonna down shift to 4th but i went in 2nd and i went past redline to 7500 RPM felt like my car was gonna fall apart.... now most of the time i put the the console lid up so i shift with my arm now. today i got my skunk2 shift **** and realized that i cant get a short shifter cuz of this problem. sorry if this was hard to read and understand, just wanted to know if u other 04 owners have the same problem as me. anyone have any suggestions for this problem? can i blame honda for this problem or is it driver error for my miss shift.
