Question Could a strong sub mess up your car?

Well, my friend was lookin for some subs and amps so I decided to accompany him for some of my advice. Anyway, while I was going shop to shop with him, i decided to find out some prices on subs for my next car. I decided I would like to go with the JL Audio W7. I know they are 2000w RMS. I asked how much they are, and they run about 400-500 for 1 12". I then asked which amp should I run to push this temendous power, and they recomended a JL audio amp which only pushed about 800w rms. I told him, then im not fully using the subs power. He then said its not recommended to use the w7 on a car thats not made to handle 2000w rms. He said he knew someone who put it the w7 inside a JL audio enclosure and it messed up his suspension, and a whole lot of other ****. Could this be true? If you put this sub in a car without any sound deadners or anything like that, can it cause problems? If so, i dont plan on getting this sub anymore, lol. I just never herd of this b4 though, so it seems kinda strange.

only thing i can think of is the weight... my gfs car is suffering cuz her subs are too heavy and the rear is saggin pretty bad.... but i dont think the power of the sub makes a difference unless your alternator is part of ur suspension.

well, im not really talkin about power from the alternator, more like the vibrations from a powerful sub. Could the constant strong vibrants (2000rms) be bad to the car?

I've seen bolts loosen in cars with ridiculous spl but not a daily driver type of system. It might sag the rear of the car a little. Mine sagged alot with the weight of both subs and the box being close to 200 lbs but when i lowered the car i used 4 door springs which are stiffer in the rear so now it sits even.

fiiiiiiiiiiiiirst of all -

jl 12w7's are only rated for 750 watts rms... check www.jlaudio.com

2nd -

I told him, then im not fully using the subs power.
subs have no power, a power rating is merely a thermal rating, or, a reccomendation. its all enclosure dependant. in the right enclosure, you can make a w7 reach full excursion off 100-200 watts, its all enclosure dependant

3hird -

He then said its not recommended to use the w7 on a car thats not made to handle 2000w rms.
so um, show me where in the manual the car's rms rating is

also, power does NOT equate to loudness

an rms rating of a sub will not define how loud it can get. Example: I cant take 2 subs, adire shiva, and RE xxx 12". shiva is rated at 600 rms, xxx 12" is rated at 1600 rms, give them both 250-300 watts in their optimum enclosures, and the shiva would spank the xxx

finally -

any suspension problems due to stereo are strictly weight related. but the car is rated for an 800 pound or so cargo load, so i doubt 100 pounds WILL screw up your car
by the way, perfect mate for a jl 12w7 is a jl 1000/1

PS:

who the hell taught you about audio... whoever it is, shoot them in the foot. they are the reason such copious amounts of misinformation, rumors, false truths, and horrendously inaccurate dogma's about car audio exist.

some probelms my friend had

My friend's car was built for competition. It had 9 subwoofers in it. His sounds system was started with a remote control because any other way would make you go deaf. He had to replace his windows because the pressure buid up or vibration was so exccesive that his window broke. The rubber around the windows became stretched, and his stock windows broke the rails that they were connected to. For any normal system ie , any system you actually listen to while driving, this shouldn't be a problem though. the most aanoying things will be, parts of the car rattling loose.

Wow, who the hell puts 9 FRIGGIN SUBS in the back of their car? If they had any sense, they would know that extreme measures of sound can break glass.

3 punching subs are close to breaking windows in your car, why go to 9? So you can hear ALL bass and no Mids or Highs? that's rediculous...

he competed in max sound pressure tests, that's why he had 9 subs, and why he had to use a remote to turn his system on for those competitions. Again I was just posting for an extreme example or possible, but not likely damage. With his system he'd never comptere for sound quality, but he had a sponsor or 2 which donated the equipment for a bit. I think he got to keep some of the stuff just because he was a dribing ad for them, and was in a few magazines.

They have "decible drags" everywhere. all they do is blast subs and whoever hits highest wins. for a daily driver though, 2 JL w3's, 1 w6 or 1 w7 in a High Output wedge from JL will be plenty and shouldnt *copletly* beat your car up, just rattle you and your car to many long headaches.
Anyway im probably giong to get the High Output wedge with 2 12w's or 10's depending on my trunks ability to fit them. they are amazingly loud with 500 watts rms, and ill probably give it 460 till i get more money at the end of the summer.

so exactly 3 punching subs will break windows?
its complex thing to say how many and what kinds of subs break windows. ive seen cars with 1 10 that could shatter glass, ive seen cars with 6 12's that couldnt. its based on install vs product vs car vs material vs weather vs a million other things.

its not for listening, hell, most of these people dont even drive the cars, theyre strictly for competition purposes. and its not only done in the us, hell, ive seen these competitions in the us, canada, mexico, germany, england and more.
you might make fun of people who compete in audio, I make fun of people who drag race.

also, there ARE safety regulations. for example, some governing bodies of the audio world dont allow you to be in the car when it exceeds 140 db's or they disqualify you.

dont hate on things you obviously dont know a damn thing about,
and
dont flame in my forum or i WILL have you banned

the JL 13.5W7 is rated at 1000RMS EACH side at 2ohms the 12W7 is 750RMS each side. What would be better,, running one amp to both sides of the speaker or run 2 JL 1000/1's one on each side of the speaker? I seen a killer orion setup like this in a SPL car and i think it was 167DBLs on 1 orion 15in DVC with 2 amps decible might have been higher, it was a UK magazine

ludlamtheory is right one speaker and 2 3 4 5 amps can be way louder in SPL than 40 speakers and 20 amps.

only problems i've had with my 2 12" TypeRs running off a 601S is i lost a bolt for my license plate (in the rear) and the screw that holds in my alarm siren was a bit loose (but im not sure the siren being loose was from bass, its possible tho) the bolt i lost for my license plate as definitly from the bass :P

well the guy does not know what he is talking about. Weight is a issue thats about it. I am pushing two SPL-Wl 12" subs that weigh 25 lbs a piece then a fiberglass box thats about 75 lbs. with phoenis gold amps for power and the only problem I ever have is occasional rattle and the weight of the subs and box.
