Oil Pressure Gauge Fittings - Need Help
I got myself electronic Oil Pressure and Oil Temperature gauges. After looking at the fittings that came with them, it looks like I'll need 2 "T" couplings and a couple of 1/8" NPT to -4AN fittings.
My question is: can I use brass fittings/pipe for hooking this up? Also, does anyone else have the same setup? I'm hoping I can install these without using a crimped+braided stainless steel line - maybe a pipe threaded Male and Female to extend outwards to clear the oil filter and intake manifold. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Read the DIY, and you need to get a hole tapped into your oil pan for the oil temp. Thats the most accurate way to read temp. If you don't feel like taping the pan, take your drain plug to a machine shop and have them tap a hole in the middle of it, then drill all the way through.

Thanks for the info, boilermaker. In reading the DIY, I noticed that 1/8NPT to -4AN fittings were required. I'm not familiar with the -xAN pipe fittings standard. Could I use normal metric ones in the existing oil sensor hole (eg: M8x1.5 or whatever). If so, what is the size of the hole for the oil sensor?
Thanks!

NPT holes are tapered, so NO you cannot use metric fittings. I got a 1/8 NPT fitting in the port, but supposedly the block has a BNPT fitting (its a little different, I guess you should use that for the block). AN (Army Navy) fittings have a 37 degree taper on them and they are self sealing so you don't need to use paste or thread tape to keep them from leaking. You need the proper fittings or you're going to have problems. I'd also use Stainless T fittings as opposed to brass ones.

OK, one more question, then I (hopefully) won't have to bug you again. So here is my plan (roughly):
Engine Block Hole
to BNPT to 1/8" NPT converter
to 1/8"NPT "T"
to my pressure gauge (it includes a 1/8" NPT fitting)
and
to 1/8NPT to -4AN Converter
to stock oil pressure idiot light transducer.
Hope that made sense.
Basically, I'm confused as to to what the correlation is between AN and BNPT. Ie: what is the correct thing to use when I screw into my block; 1/8" BNPT or -4AN?
Thanks again.
PS: I'm a bit embarrased about this discussion. I'm a mechanical engineer by profession, but have never dealt with piping aside from NPT and standard metric threading... lol.

There is one other option... a bit more expensive, but it makes for a clean installation...

Holy crap - that looks like a clean, easy way of doing the install... Intruder - do you have this set-up on your car? After reading the specs and such, I think this might be the way I'll go...
I had a hard time telling from the pic; is there only one threaded hole on the adapter? Reason I'm asking is I'd like to know if I require a T-adapter to accomodate my pressure and temperature sensors.
Thanks!

I did some google-searching:
http://absoluteprelude.com/forums/in...showtopic=4768
This guy did an install on his prelude using the Greddy adapter. Looks like you can hook up both the oil temp. sensor and the oil pressure sensor onto the adapter. SWEET.
Hopefully I can get feedback on this site from someone confirming that there are no fitment/clearance issues. I know that the stock oil pressure sensor is jammed pretty tight between the oil filter and intake manifold. I'd probably set up the adapter such that the oil pressure sensor points towards the driver's side of the car, and the oil temperature sensor points down. Or up, if possible, to reduce road gunk getting on it...

Thanks again, Intruder, I think you just made this install WAY easier for me. Here I was planning to buy 2 T-fittings, various couplings, a nipple and/or braided hose...
