Alternator belt. Help please!!!
Anyone know how to get the alternator belt back on an 01 civic? My friend is telling me their is a tension pulley or something like that, but we are not able to find it. I can't get the belt back on and it's driving me crazy. If you have any ideas or know exactly what to do please help. I need to get this car back up and running. I'm renting a car right now and I can't afford to keep it much longer. Please help.

there is no tensioner or idler pulley on either belt they have a little wing nut that is used to tension the belt you can find this on the alt.
You can either go in from the top by taking offf the power steering pump and belt then get to the alt that way. or you can go in from the side by supporting the front of the car with jackstands and taking the left wheel off, then take off the inner wheel well (couple of screws and clips) and have at it that way. Once you are able to look in there it is pretty simple. the wing nut on the alt is a biaatch to get to unless you have small hands.
Enjoy...its not too hard either way.

Thanks for the help. When I took out the alternator I actually went a different way than anyone has mentioned. I took off the front bumper and removed the headlight. It was still hard but it gave me a pretty good angle to get at the bolts. One bad thing about going in the way that I did was I had to move the power steering fluid resevoir and I ended up having to remove the hose that runs the fluid from the resevoir to the pump. I ended up spilling all of the power steering fluid. Luckily it's only $2.29 at Honda for more fluid. I finally got the belt on. I simply pushed down on the alternator as hard as possible and my friend managed to get the belt on the alternator. He struggled with it a little bit but it eventually went on. Thanks for the help.
