Is there really any difference between an aem or injen intake when compared to a generic (ebay) intake?
Basically all I want is the sound so is a generic intake good enough?

I got a generic one. It sounds pretty good. I got a K&N filter, same thing goes on the AEM's. The filter is a different style cone as the AEM, but you can still use the filter recharge kit on it.
actually my generic intake is bigger than the AEM and THE INJEN.
i have a 3" tubing. and the Injen that i had was 2 and a 1/4 as well as the AEM.
but the filter does make a big difference.

the piping componants and metals are different... brand name intakes Dicipate more heat allowing the intake air to go to the throttle body alot cooler....
Brand names - the consumer's not just paying for the name ... they're paying for all the R and D (Research and Development) as well as for the best componants...
...while Generic copy the design and make it with cheaper componants... hence the cheaper price... as well as they didnt have to do all teh R and D...

If you want the loudest sound possible, then get the AEM V2! I have had the AEM "cold air", the INJEN Race Division, and now have the AEM V2 and for gains and sound, nothing comes close!!! Huuuge difference!!! A couple of 7thgeners have si's here in town and i took one of them for a rip and they said it's way louder than their si with and intake when the vtec kicks in!! But it is very expensive....but if you're just looking for some sound, then generic is the way to go...good luck!

L23 Tan is selling a CAI... so ask him...
CAI is good for auto's cause it compinsates for the low end we loose out on that the 5 Speeds have...
but get the by-pass valve if your getting the CAI
I have a Sawed off Akimoto Tube with a Tenzo R filter Short Ram .. and its hella deep and loud...

I started off with an Ebay cheapo cause it was like 40 bucks and I had just got the car and I wanted some sound, not that it sounded bad in the first place...but just that top end sound is cool....recently I invested in the AEM V2....I noticed not too much but enough to notice a difference in the hp gain...i'm not saying it's a lot, just enough to notice the difference...but the sound is AWESOME....its nice and loud and deep....it doesn't sound like those ricer's cheap dryer piping ones that they make themselves.....lol....
...but if you just want the sound....go with the cheapo ebay one, but go with a cold air becuase when i had a short ram...didn't notice too much sound....and yes, i am on my third intake in 10 months...lol...gotta fine tune...

if all u want is sound just take the lower intake black box (1st 1 right behind the battery) that will give you the "intake sound". i drove my car like that for like a week b 4 i got my turbo kit on cuz i gave my intake to boosted 2k2

FIPK II all the way
a lil expensive but well worth the money... great for Autos... doesn't need to dissipate heat since the tubing is plastic and there's a heatshield...
a lil expensive but well worth the money... great for Autos... doesn't need to dissipate heat since the tubing is plastic and there's a heatshield... you can't just put the filter just on the intake manifold because you will have no back pressure... so your car can't go pass a certain rpm..
I had the v2 intake and i stick the filter really in an i couldn't pass 5000 rpm so i am pretty sure if u put it on the intake manifold which is much more closer you won't be able to go pass a certain rpm not exactuly sure what it is going to be...
and plus u can't plug the sensor which is not good and the hose to the engine so i would not recommended anyone that want to try this
just get a generic intake which is like $100

I'm surprised NO ONE here mentioned the pairing of a CHEAPO intake (SRI or CAI) with a CHEAPO strut tower bar. THEY WILL NOT FIT.
I know for sure that a cheapo strut bar has no clearance for even a AEM or Injen CAI/SRI... Not sure what happens if you have a cheapo intake + brand name strut tower bar.
Just take note, that's all. You get what you pay for. I have an el cheapo strut tower bar, which means more than likely I cannot buy a SRI/CAI.... Unless I go for K&N drop in filter, or MAYBE the K&N FIPK II...
