Getting Rid of Interior Neon Cigarette Adapter (connecting to fuse box?)

Okayokay, I know this has already been covered I have found most of the posts on this topic and went over them but I am still somewhat clueless so if anyone is willing to take a stab at educating an amature (ME) please go for it!

I have two 9" neons already screwed in under the driver and passenger dash (feet)...i have been using the cigarette adapter to power them however now i am ready to get a switch and get rid of the icky wires hangin around!

Please in simplest terms tell me how to take apart the cig adapater on the end of the neon wires and connect the wires (is it best to connect them to the cig lighter power?) or to the fuse box or whatever and then make a switch which i can glue down over the fog light switch space beside cig lighter thingy! Thank you to anyone who takes a stab! Diagrams would help (most of the ones I found were no longer coming up in the older posts)

cut off the cig. lighter adapter, strip a little bit of the end of the wires (black and red, i presume...) tap a 12v positive wire under the dash with the red wire and attach the black one to a ground... somehow route that through a switch in the middle of the circuit.. thats how i'd do it.. i'm only an amateur also, so you might wanna get someone with wiring experience...

Why use the cig lighter wires? I have 2 neons under my seats and I ran the power wire to an empty fuse under the dash. I put the power wire into one of the empty fuse slots and put a fuse in there. I then grounded the wire from the transistor and its done. If you want a switch, the just put the switch somewhere in the power lead. Not to hard at all, plus its controlled by the ignition.

you can do a few things. autozone has a thing that directly goes to your baterie that has a fuse built into the wire that you can hook up 4 diffrent wires to it and it has a key pad to turn each one on 1-4. or you can run it to a fuse under the stearing wheel

Does anyone know how to wire it so when I unlock the doors it turns on and continues to stay on?

Mir,
You should get two more smaller ones and put them under the seats so the front and back are lit up. Looks alot better. I use velcro to make them stick.

you should just push the wires through the firewall and get power directly from the battery... be sure to run a fuse between them tho... just in case.. heh

That's exactly what I did. On the place next to the cig lighter i drilled a hole then placed a switch, then wired it frmo the cig lighter.

Then you have to remember to turn them off with the switch. Running through the fuse box is cheaper, easier, and safer. To ground them, use the spot under the center console near the shifter.
