Post To those of you who are smelling fuel after doing a return conversion - READ!

I have been smelling fuel since day one after I converted my fuel system. At first I thought it was the fitting that I installed for the return system. But after today I fixed the damn problem.

It is important to seal the fitting right. Make sure you tap your hole, and put a little RTV black gasket maker on the top of the fitting. Don't bother with putting it on the plastic because it will not adhere to the plastic. Wait until it dries, than install the fitting.

Here's the big part. There is a gasket that goes between the tank and the filter assembly. When I first installed my return line I just pushed it down and put the lock nut on top of it. Well, tonight the revelation happened. You must push the filter assembly down until it LOCKS into place using the gasket! You can't just hold the filter down and put the lock nut on top of it - it must be pushed into place and lock itself. This is why its very important to use a new gasket (as the Helm manual says).

I took the car for a spin, and guess what? No more gas smell!

Another big thing - DON'T USE FUEL INJECTION HOSE IN THE TANK! After taking my tank apart tonight for the second time I examined the hose that I used. It was starting to get soft, and had bubbled in a few spots. Just for those wise @sses - I used good year fuel injection hoses, so it wasn't some cheap ****.

I ended up replacing my hoses with the few remaining scraps of my Earl's Blue Super Stock hose that I had left over - that stuff is the shiznet!

Hope all works out for you guys...

I bought the hose from Jegs I believe. They don't sell it by the foot - you can only get it in certain lengths, which is why I bought a 20 ft length (I believe). For the return conversion I used the Earl's Super Stock hose ends - you can't use any of the other ends with the Super Stock hose. In the tank I just used fuel injection hose clamps (which are basically the same as the regular hose clamps you see with the screw - but they are failsafe, with a bolt instead of a screw. You can't reuse them either, so if you mess one up, use a new one - otherwise you may have a line blow off). So far everything is holding up great, but I haven't had the opportunity to increase the fuel pressure via boost, as I am still waiting for my exhaust manifold from SF....
