o2 simulator and A/F gauge

alright i installed my A/F gauge when i still had my stock exhaust system
and it was working fine.
then i installed my exhaust system which in turn removed the cat; the A/F gauge was still working fine.

however without the cat the car was running rich at idle and lean at WOT.
i have a NX kit so the last thing i need is for the car to run lean.
so i purchased an o2 sensor simulator.

now...the o2 sensor simulator removes the OEM o2 sensors.
the A/F gauge taps into the first o2 sensor i believe the wire is black.

on the simulator the wire is brown. so i connected the A/F gauge to the brown wire
and nothing happens; it doesnt show a reading. is there anywhere else i could connect
the A/F gauge into?

thanks

EDIT: the gauge is recieving power so its not that

theres another o2 sensor right off the headers. thats where you should tap into.

thats where i had it installed before.
but now that i have the o2 simulator the sensors dont get any power
because they were replaced by the simulator.
i even tried to tap into the corresponding wire on the simulator but, it didnt work

wait... dosent the 02 sim just trick the ecu into thinking it has both 02 sensors? isnt it called a simulator because it just gives a fake reading so the check engine light stays off?
and if it does... then wouldent it do the same thing to the gauge, so gauge could show a rich reading, but the car could actually be running lean.

i dono, it just dosent seem like you could use the gauge, and the sim to me

I thought you are only supposed to replace the O2 sensor with the sim after the cat. You need the one before it.

i think it tells the ECU that everything is ok so that it wont for example run lean at WOT.
it tricks the ECU into thinking the cat is still there. the A/F gauge wont get a false reading

im gonna try and just run the first o2 sensor and then have the simulator on the second sensor. becasue the A/F gauge hooks up to the first sensor anyways

The O2 sim should be run on the one after the cat and the A/F on the one before it, that is the A/F reading you want the one after the cat really wont tell you crap!. hope you didn't hook it up the other way as that would be bad. also check to see how you A/F hooks up i belive that the one before the cat is a 3 wire and you gauge my need to be hooked up to a 4 wire. i may be wrong on that one i'll cal my autometer sales rep and ask him.
let me know if im wrong or if you need anything
