Paint Cracking
I go speckles of missing paint on my front bumper body kit anybody else have any problems with their kit? The paint is all cracking a bit near the bottom and now I have spekles of paint missing. Is this due to poor workmanship?
i had that problem....
it was a s h i t a s s paint job.
when i brought it to another shop.. that guy said the paint was too thick.
the first place.. i had the guy re-do it as well and it was still having the same problem
when i had it done at a 2nd shop... no problems. only chips from rocks/stones... which i cant really complain about b/c of the speed i go on the highway and the horrible'ness of the roads is...... "is horrible'ness a possible word? lol
i'll comment again when i see your pics

here's an example of my problem...
these were taken over a year ago....
i doubt yours are as bad as mine....
these paints peeling off was caused by strong water pressure... there wasnt any dings or scratchs to start off with...........
no matter how strong the water pressure is, the paint shouldnt be chipping the way you see it in my pics

here's a good example
this was my front lip i believe... as you can see, there are chips on the back where the bolts are.
imo, i dont see how it's possible for stones/rocks to ride around the wheel all the way around and then hit the back of my front lip
even though it's possible.. but i still highly doubt that it would have that big of an effect to cause the paint to chip.
as the rocks would be ridden off at the top of the wheel well at the most

That is the worst case if seen!! I think mine is due to presure washer since it was washed this morning. I'd hate to blame it on the place I took it to they were awesome, if you saw the accident pics they brought it back to life. The paint looks like it was applied alright, I'll get the pictures on tomorrow, the thing is it's on the front bumper the side and rear is alright. I wonder if it's the revolving brushes at the automatic car washes, actually that would make sense. I'll get your opinions tomorrow.
aznsaint that paint job looks like a nightmare!!! my hood and front bumper had to be repainted too but my paint doesn't peel off like that!! and ialso wash my car with hbigh pressure water washer and my paint is still good. how much did that paint job cost you??/ and which shop did u go to?? did you bring it back to the shop to have them fix it. when i got my bumper and hood repainted i remember the guy telling me to not wash my car 4-6 weeks. all i can say is that the paint job is crap!!

I sorta have the same problem. I got into a minor fender bender about two years ago, and had a body shop paint and buff my front bumper. Now its riddled with little white specs from where stones and debris has chipped at the paint.
TOspoiler... not them, the body shop they're associated with.
i paid like 600 for the whole kit. ****ing rip off now to think of it.
i had them repaint and still had the same problem after.
as for not washing the car.. i didnt wash it for like two months without the high pressure. i'd usually just rinsed it.
Dasica: if you just got your bumper repainted.. it's just prolly the way the paint was applied on. and i would understand if you dont want to go back and complain.. wait a lil' longer.
if it doesnt look like stone chips... then i'd say go and ask them if they can touch it up

I smoked a stupid pot hole last night a cracked my kit. So now for sure I'm getting a repaint, I'm thinking about applying fiber class in the back than using so thick tar for the back side since no one see it and make it more solid. Any other suggestions on making kits more solid? I'll get the pics up in a min
i lost count of the chips... there's so many
that cant be possible from stone chips? it would mean a lot and a lot of stones would be chipping away at your car.. and for that. you'd would probably be on the highway everyday driving at about 100km/h on a rocky road with lots of rocks....
gatta be a bad paint job imo.

I got my kit painted by Honda it was a great paint job until I brought it in to get my car serviced and they jacked my car up by my side skirts. Good thing the skirts were urethane or it would of broke but I had Honda repaint the two skirts free of charge......this was last winter, no problem since then. still shiny and in perfect condition.....All I got to say dont be cheap on the paint....it always ends up more trouble then it is when you ceap out. Oh and more clearcoats means more glossy paint but it also means its thicker and more likely to chip......

Yeah I figured that, I do drive behind trucks on the highway. Obviously it has to be painted agian, I thought for sure I busted the whole thing last night I was so relieved when it was that crack. Maybe I should move down south and get away from crapy weather.
Is there anybody that fixed a crack like that before?

thats the #1 reason y i didnt get fiberglass. if ur kit was urethane i bet all u would need to do is respray. now u have to get that repaired then painted. double the money.
now that its finally warming up a little outside, buying paint and all the prep stuff and painting this friday. ill be sure to take some pics. possible DIY?? hmmmm

yep.....when the weather changed really fast back in I think November. After parking my car outside in the cold at work. I drove 10 km home and saw that the exhaust cracked the paint in my WW rear valance.....
You should take urethane off for the winter...
