What do you guys do with your faceplates?
What do you guys do with your faceplates when you leave the car? I was talking to my friend and both of us just hide the faceplate somewhere in the car when we leave. Yes I know that theifs will be able to find it if they break into the car and it defeats the point of the anti theft feature. However, I am more afraid of me loosing the faceplate somewhere outside my car (I am slightly forgetful) plus the lazyness factor.
Do you guys always take the face with you anywhere you go or does it depend on the parking lot conditions?

taking the face off depends on where i am parking and for how long. a good place to hide it is behind the pedals in between the carpet and the firewall (if you're going to leave it in the car). if i ever take mine off, i take it with me.

I leave my faceplate on all the time. I used to take it off and take it with me but I forgot it too many times and had to cruise with no tunes. You can buy faceplates at the swap meet or even from the manufacturer if you can get a non stolen serial number (like the one off the display model at bestbuy) The only advantage to taking the face off is the thief doesn't know what type of radio it is. He might not waste his time if he thinks it might be some cheap wal-mart removable face radio. Although chances are...if you have a hooked up car...you're not running a wal-mart radio.
I always carry the faceplate where every I go. I never leave it in the car, it kinda defeats the purpose if you leave it in there, even with it off the base. My car has been broken into once, if I hadnt carried my face with me, I could be down an addition 350$. Carrying it around in my pocket is a small price to pay to save 350$.

It all depends on where I go but I usually take it off and put it in underneath the seat. My car is not that hooked up so they won't really know if it is walmart brand or not

That doesn't matter. I've had my old 87 Jetta broken into and they took my $200 Kenwood deck. My civic has never been broken into, although it's been through alot of hit and runs.

i used to take it out, but i got lazy, most places i go are pretty secure, so i dont worry about it much, and i'm about to get an eclipse radio (non removeable faceplate) so i wont have that option anymore.
and besides, my radio is the least expensive audio component i have, as long as they dont touch my other stuff, i dont care.

Any aftermarket deck is nice enough to steal, since they can sell it for money. Eclipse decks have a theft guarantee anyway, at least for a year.

take it with me depending on where I am. Alot of times it's fine to just leave it in the car I don't really care that much.
I figured the more I worry the worst it is, my HU is undetachable but it's the camo one so I just put up the window visor when it's sunny out, that way no light can enter my car and I have tint so u can't see what's inside the car, unless u're trying hard to look.
Hey I do that too.
Just a note on the crappy decks. My friend got his Jensen deck stolen. Its at least 50 bucks cheaper than the cheapest deck you can find at bestbuys. Even that got stolen.

For me it depends on the area that I park my car and for how long I am going to leave it.
When I do pull it off, I leave it under the drivers side seat in the car. I never take it with me in my pocket.

Once my 2000 Hatch Civic was broken into I never left my faceplate in my car again. Now that I have my 03 Civic EX, I ride stock style.
Question: You know Kenwood has those Personalized Codes you use, so when the deck loses power you have to enter in the code. Are those hard to undo? My deck cost $179.00, it was stolen but I put a code in, a code that was hard to figure out. Just curious.

Haha, funny story. Back when I was like 8 years old, I remember my uncle had a Tapedeck in his car. When we left the car parked, his tapedeck would slide out. The whole tapedeck would come out.!?! So we would be walking around the store with a freaking 10lbs tapedeck.
Ok, I am done now.

I think someone on this site has it where they put the stock CD face in front of the HU and the car looks like stock, but he made it where u can lift off the fake faceplate and access the real HU. Pretty neat idea, but that'll require some skills in crafts...something I don't have much of.

For you peeps that leave it in when you're only gone for a few minutes: it takes a theif who knows civics about 10 secs to cleanly steal the entire center console.
