Help! Chip in paint on hood.

Does anyone have any advice on how to repair this, and how much it might cost?

lol, thats not that bad, but it does suck it happened. Anyways, go to your dealer and buy a thing of touch up paint. Its paint matched and it cost like $3.00 the most. Thats the best thing to do.

Yea get the touch up paint from the dealer. Theres also a product called Langka. It may be called something else now because i think mother's bought it. But you dab on the touch up paint in the chip so that it its higher than the stock paint, and you use this liquid stuff and smooth it out. Supposedly it works good but i have yet to use it. Not sure if anyone else on this board has??

You're gonna pay a body shop to repaint that? You gotta be kidding me.
Get a bottle of touch up, clean the chip with denatured alcohol, then put a dot of touchup in it with a toothpick. There, its gone.
There's no need to repaint that. If thats your first one, you're in for a rude surprise... there will be plenty more where that came from. Just do some more highway driving.

That toothpick idea is a really good suggestion, thanks. I got the paint from the dealer, and the first thing I noticed was that the applicator brush was way too big. One of my buddies suggested I use a wet sandpaper to smooth it out after it has dried. Anyone have any comments on that?

Body shop?...I don't think so.

body shops will squeeze the money outta your wallet. They'll make it all complicated and give you this garbage: If you don't want the whole hood repainted, we're going to strip and sand off the paint around the chip to effectly match the paint they'll be apply over the chip.

BULLSHIT I don't think there's any shop who will just "touch it up".

ps be careful with the sand paper method

Yeah... like 1600 grit make a dot of it with a hole punch and glue it to a pencil eraser. Wet it with soap and water, and spin the pencil around. Rub it with some scratch remover to get rid of the dulling from the sanding, then wax that ****.

you guys are right and wrong.. First off the touch up paint will not ever perfectly match, Im sorry bro but you will always notice that.
I however want to make it clear that many more of those will fallow and the best idea to touch it up was from boilermarker 1. However you do not use a tooth pic. I been around body shops long enough and touched my body kit up long enough from the stupid gravel trucks to know it wont go on smooth with a toothpick.
get a match and use the nonstrike end! make sure non-strike rofl unless you want to burn something. its a softer smaller and wider applier of aplications than a toothpick is
if you get it done at a body shop they would most likely charge you, I say about 300 bucks. Why? becuase if the body shop is good and knows anything at all. They will have to repaint your whole hood to get it to match perfectly. Sometimes the most outrages sounding things are right. Like when I destroyed the front fender on my car we have to repaint that fender and the door. I smacked the back too near the bumper. so in order to get the paint to match perfect. Painted the whole side of the car over again! Just have to live with it.
at least now I start all over scratch free rofl!!

dont get touch up paint, that stuff doesnt match at all. get a touch up/clear coat pen from www.handaaccessories.com. i bought one on ebay for a ssm acura and it matches perfect, but i dont think acura has that color red.

here is what you want:
Chip-Mender brand Touch Up Paint Pen - $6.95
scroll down to the bottom of the page. it is not the same as the one acura sells because it doesnt have the clear coat, but it is much better, as you can see, than the touch up paint.

Wet sanding with 1000+ grit is a good idea. Do a small patch around the chip after applying the touch up paint. Then, you'll want to "cut" the paint with a rubbing compound and rotary buffer. After compounding, you'll do a light polish and swirl fill, and finish up with your favourite wax.

You just need to leave that chip alone. It is going to happen even more as you drive your car. Touchup paint is the farthest that you can go in masking it, but it won't be completly invisible. My blue civic has alot of chips like that on the hood from driving back and forth from home to college. I used to be **** as hell and freak out about these little imperfections, but now I just accept it. I don't put many miles on my civic and I know that after college is over, I will still have my civic with probably 70-80k miles. Im pretty sure that I will be getting a new paint job sometime after college.
