6x9's??

Ok, I have a 2001 sedan. Therefore, I have 6 1/2's in the rear. Well 6 1/2's suck. They don't have the power handling or clarity that 6x9's do. Anyways, is there a way to I guess, cut my rear deck to 6x9's will fit?

I might consider changing my Ideas about 6.5's and 6x9's before trying to fit them in there.

realistically 6x9's have many problems that 6.5's just dont have, based on cone shape and sheer size. the 6x9 really pushes the limits of common cone material for flexing, and most often actually aren't as clear as 6.5's!

as for powerhandling, most high end companies dont produce 6x9's at all, much less produce them with the same level of technology as they put into their 6.5's.

How much do you think a 6x9 can handle? you cna make kappas resonate and flex aith less than 40 watts of power, and why have such a large cone if it cant handle the lower frequencies! Meanwhile, my Digital Designs 6.5's took 350 rms at full tilt playing down to 50 Hz for 30 minutes before they finally gave up. And they sounded wonderful up to the time they died.

I would definitely keep the 6.5's back there, and if i wanted to put rear speakers in the back of my coupe, I would consider putting a baffle back there just so i could fit 6.5's back there rather than 6x9's!

they are truly a superior speaker in every way

don't go by the max power handling on the box either. for example, pioneer 6.5's say 220W peak power handling, but only 50W continuous. this is kinda deceptive, IMO. power handling does not make a better speaker, either.

for clarity try bass blockers. you won't get the low end, but you won't get the distortion from mediocre speakers either. or use a high pass filter on an amp, if you amplify them.
