Computer Fan Questions?

i am going to be putting computer fans in my new amp enclosure. and after looking at several local places (local computer stores, radio shack, and some other electronics stores), i now have some questions. the only fans i can find are DC voltage rated. i have found several 12 Volt DC fans, but will they work off a car's ac voltage, or would that power have to be converted. i'd prefer to be able to tap into my remote wire, and power them that way. only problem is, i have no clue if the 12 VDC fans will work off of a car's battery. i was thinking they wouldn't being as it is not ac rated, but i didn't know, because i have never installed comp fans before. would they work, or do i have to find a different fan to use? if so, where is somewhere online i could find them, being as none of the local places carry ac voltage fans. thanks in advance.

Cars are Direct Current [DC]

Also, PE carries a good amount of cheap buyout 12vdc fans: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/webpa...DID=7&promo=24

I don't think so.. but all those fans at Radio Shack and computer stores are mostly 12vdc, your computer mostly runs at 12vdc, or 5vdc. It's what the Power supply does, changes your 120 ac to 12/5 vdc.

they weren't too high on them... like 6 bucks on a 1 9/16 fan, and up from there. btw, that link doesn't work, but i went to their homepage and browsed for them. don't know, i might order them from them, or just get them at rad shack, that way if i have a problem i can just take them back. also, should i get a regular fan, or get those blower type fans (look like a minature blower on an air conditioning unit). im thinking 3 -5 depending on which size i get. im cooling a jl 500/1, possibly 1000/1, depending on if i go ahead and get the new amp.

I guess it depends on the amp rack you have planned. I think that all that would matter is the CFM the fan can put out. Make sure you have outlets for the air to go out too.

also, make sur eyou dont hook them to remote directly, use remote to turn on a relay that powers your amplifiers and fans. some of those fans can draw as much as an ampere of current or more!

Regularjoe is on a distinguished road
Don't forget to grab some neons too, that relay will be perfect to control those.
