Winter Tires
I'm getting some winter tires, and was wondering what brands/models you guys recommend?
I have a 2k2 LX Sedan, I think the tire size is 185/65/15? Is that right? Should the winter tires be the same size as the stock tires?
Thanks.

Ok so I found out that the 2 best winter tires would probably be the:
Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50
Michelin Arctic Alpin
(185/65/15)
They are roughly the same price, so my next question is, what is a cheaper winter tire that is still good quality?

I'm running Arctic Alpins on winter steelies, stock size (185/65/R15).
From what I remember of my research, the Blizzaks are extremely soft, and the worst part about them is only 50% of the rubber is the good stuff! Once you go past the 50% wear of the tread, it's your normal all-season rubber
Check out tirerack.com for reviews....
Note that the Alpins give off a whining noise on wet pavement, kinda like a supercharger
With regards to size.... Some people believe a wider tire (example: 195/60/R15) would give you a much wider contact path, thus more grip. Not only will it give you more grip, but it will also give you lower gas mileage (it's already bad enough running winter rubber that's the same dimensions!), but it will also be more difficult for the tire to 'cut' a path in the ice/snow... So goes the saying... That's why you want the thinner contact patches... (i.e. stock size)

i think can tire has a 30% off artic alpins in the flyer this week...
u should go check it out...
i have the artic alpins in 195/60/15...they didn't have the stock size when i bought them last year...the whistling noise makes you think your car is taking off
(like an airplane)
u can search for an old thread on winters vs all seasons
pirelli snowsports, nokian hakka's are also good...

If you wanna go ghetto, Walmart has winter tires for super super cheap too. I'm running 16" winter tires from them, no problems during the two nice dumps we had this winter so far.
