I Have No Clue - Subs
So I got my components(they sound awesome but I need bass now).
I'm trying to decide on which subs to get.
I think I want a sealed enclosure and probably one 12" sub.
Before I was thinking a sealed enclosure with two 10" subs.
I'm more about SQ so sealed would be best correct?
I listen to mostly R&B, Hip Hop, and sometimes Techno.
I was also thinking of going with the JBL BP600.1 amp.
Any recommendations on subs or amps?
Thanks in advance.

if you just want some bass. just get one of the package deals from like best buy or someplace like that. it comes with an amp and a sub then u need to get the mosnter cable to wire it up. you'll spant under 500 for sure.
What I have for my bass setup is a single JL Audio 12w3v2 in a custom slotted box that I built according to the specs for this subwoofer on the JL web site. To power it I have an Alpine M300 300W RMS. The bass for my rap and everything is great for just a single 12" subwoofer.
elemental is out of your pricerange, realistically. the k series doesnt even perform up to shiva standards, and the O more likely than not wont have the SPL you are looking for. fantastic as an SQ woofer, but wont play ultra low or ultra loud.
with a budget of $500, id definitely go the 1 12 route. easier to hit lower frequencies, and you cna spend more money on a single woofer rather than a pair of lesser woofers.
4 guage amp kits from audiopipe go on ebay for $36 shipped.
i say $60 for box materials, just to give you that extra cash for carpet, maybe sandpaper if you need it, the hidden costs of stuff you might need, maybe a screwdriver bit for your drill, or a combination drill/countersink bit (handiest inexpensive tool ever, i swear)
that leaves $400 for amplifier and subwoofer. Id start with the subwoofer, and get the best subwoofer for the job. I feel better about skimping on amplifier than on the speaker.
Like a $150 jbl to power a $250 idmax, for example, rather than a $225 jbl 1200.1 to power some cheap $150 subwoofer, or worse, a pair of $80 subwoofers, none of which could handle the power anyways.
I am a big fan of the Idmax, they are going for dirt cheap nowadays, especially the D2, whouch would be perfect, as inexpensive 500 watt 2 channel amplifiers can be had in the $150 range.
with that in mind, id suggest a single D2 IDmax coupled with a soundstream amplifier rated for 500 rms or more off ebay, easily under $150.
slightly overbudget could surely find you an amplifier on ebay in the 700+ watt range, pushing you to maybe $550-575. But no reason to go overbudget, 500 rms is plenty for any woofer from image dynamics, they know how to build an efficient woofer!
and the quality of the max is paramount. With plenty of SPL capabilities, even with only 500 rms. A soundstream amplifier would have plenty of resale value, as well, if you did decide its not quite loud enough for you, so youd get as much money back as possible to lump as the start to a bigger amplifier.
and I guarantee you that the Max is in an entirely different league of subwoofer compared to the rest of the woofers being reccommended here. shiva? elemental O series? K series? Type-R? MTX? they dont hold a candle. not by a long shot.
It pays to go big with woofer and small with amplifier rather than the other way around!
