I did my whole system already. You have to remove the back dash completey, isnt too hard, but takes some patience, all the pieces snap on, so be careful and try not to break the snaps.
But, as for finding speakers for your car, I have a 2k3 as well, I went to CrutchField.com . Their prices are reasonable, and you can enter your car info and find specific speakers/decks/etc that fit your car, model, year, etc. For that page, go HERE .
Here is the DECK I put in my 2k3:
Clarion ProAudio VRX935VD
DVD/CD/MP3 Receiver with 7" Color LCD Monitor

Ummm. yeah. .thanks for all the system info there Joey, probably sounds great. . Anywho...
Backin to the topic. . The 6x9s don't really matter. I have Infinity Kappa series 6x9's. They are versatile in all types of music. If you just use your stereo equalizer and adjust the treb, bass, and mid range they'll do any type of music very clean. I can get the rock and rool guitars to scream, I can get the midrange in rap wonderfully, and I can get the nice clean sound for any other type of music, like christmas songs or what have you.
The only reason some 6x9's don't meet our application is because of the mounting depth, some of them mount too deep, which isn't a huge issue, but you'll have to remove your trunk springs and do like I'm doing in the spring and install gas shocks.
So I just say go with what you like, go to stores and listen to speakers, then go online and buy them for cheaper. Crutchfield is about the price that you find in regular stores, which is too much, check ebay, or do a search for them to find some online cheap. If you aren't sure about the websites reputation, go to soundomain.com or something like that and see if they'll price match it for you.
And. . if it turns out that the speakers you like mount too deep, then just change to gas shocks. Right now I have no assist, so I have to muscle the trunk lid when I want in my trunk. .

yo
u have to make sure they arent too deep, there are bars in the trunk that wont allow you to mount speakers that take up too much depth. Find out what the factory speaker measurements are. And, alot has to do with which amp you go with. You can take a half way decent speaker and put it with a good amp and it will own. IF not, it will sound like ****.

the speakers im looking forward to aren't connected to my amp. thanks for ur guys opinions/reviews. i think ill go with the infinity kappas. sounds like sumthin i would like. but if i were to get these, would i have to take/change anything from my car? becuz what im trying to do is just add a nice set of rear speakers without any other trouble such as the trunk bars..

I have Kappas, I love them, they sound awesome. You'll have to take off your trunk springs for them to fit though. This will make your trunk a pain to open. A simple solution is to add gas shocks. Search the forum for DIY on the gas shocks. I'll be adding gas shocks this spring.
I've been without any springs or gas shocks for about a year now. It's not that bad. I don't open my trunk much anways. It just takes a little bit of muscle to get it open, because there is nothing there to assist you.

Like so many have asked before...here's the specs:
On the rear 6x9's, you have 3- 7/16" depth, and the top mounting height is 7/16". If you want bigger speakers, you'll need to remove the trunk springs, making the trunk lid very heavy. Trunk shocks can be used instead and that DIY of Grey's is here.
The only Kappas that supposedly fit without removing the springs are the Infinity Kappa 692.5i.
Top-mount Depth (Inches) 3 1/4
Cheapest place I've found to buy Kappa speakers is http://www.Ikesound.com
Kappa 692.5i $98.10 or you can pay $199.99 at Crutchfields...no?...I didn't think so.
Here's one DIY for rear coupe speakers. Or you can just print out these instructions below that I got from Crutchfield:
1. Remove one (1) 10 mm bolt from space between center of seat bottom and seat back cushions. Pull front edge of seat bottom upward to release hooks and remove (Figure 1).
2. Fold down both rear seat backs. Fold back carpet flap on back of passenger's side seat back. Remove two (2) 10mm bolts from seat bracket. Lift section of seat back and pull to remove (Figure 2).
3. Remove one (1) 10mm bolt securing seat bracket. Lift seat section and pull to remove.
4. Pry out both pillar rimpanels starting at the top. Continue prying downward to release and remove.
5. Remove two (2) 14 mm bolts from seat belt guide on passenger's rear side panel. Remove guide (with belt) and lay aside (Figure 3).
6. Pry open screw cover behind grab handle and remove one (1) phillips screw from opening.
7. Remove one (1) push pin retaining clip from rear side panel located near wheel well.
8. Starting at the rear of passenger's rear side panel, pry out panel and work toward door opening to release and remove.
9. Pull to release three (3) plastic fold-down clips on front edge of rear deck panel (Figure 4).
10. From inside trunk, disconnect brake light wiring harness located under rear deck.
11. Starting on passenger's side, work hands under rear deck panel to release clips. Work across panel. When clips are loose, work panel toward passenger's side. NOTE: Lift driver's rear side panel to work deck panel from under side panel. Remove rear deck panel.
12. Remove four (4) 8mm screws securing speaker. Pull out speaker, disconnect and remove.
13. Connect speaker wiring adapter of replacement speaker to vehicle speaker connector. Secure new speaker with screws previously removed.
14. Test speaker operation and reassemble rear of vehicle by reversing disassembly steps.

i have mb quart discus series in back and infinity cappas up front. it really depends on an amp. i dont know who said it but if you get rear speakers you just have to run an amp. here is my setup if u care. precision power 5800 amp(800 watts) 5 channel. the speakers mentioned above and 2 jl w3's. the key is getting a deck that has 3 outputs. front back and sub for a good sound. then you can just put more gain to the front than rear cause the rears are natrually going to over power the fronts and it will sound dumb. wow i just read this and it's way unorganized sorry if u need help email me or pm me. the mb quart discus fit though to answer a question asked earlier. and i didnt move the trunk springs. hope i helped
patrick
oh ya...i listen to everything from metal to hip hop to classic rock and u just have to set the eq on the deck for diffrent types of music

And to answer your question, I've found the following 6x9s that should work:
Rockford Fosgate FRC4269 $58
JBL GTO936 $75
Kicker 02K69 $84
Alpine SPR-694A $106.20
jbl P953 $129
jbl GTO936 $75
MBQuart DTC 169 $99
There may be others, just go by the specs.
