subwoofer and amp question

i had my car in the shop today to get an oil change and a battery service so that crap doesn't continue to build up. well when i got my car i had to punch in my code to reset the radio and what not but the problem is my subwoofer isn't working. the wire is hooked up to the battery and i don't think dude mess with my stuff so im kinda lost on what the problem is. i do still have my factory deck in ,could that have anything to do with it? my amp is on and there is sound out of the woofer its just not amplified. if anyone could give any kind of help that would be great .thanks

Maybe check the gains on the amp. Also, check the Fader, f you have the spliced off the rear speakers, the fader might be turned all the way to the front. Check the bass **** as well, maybe that is turned down.

does the amp turn on? the amp should have a light on it, when you play a cd, does the light on the amp turn on? if not, check the fuse under the hood, maybe its blown.

My friend had that problem, and it turned out the amp blew. There got a short circuit surge of power, and the amp still turned on but would just get hot. I am not saying that is what is wrong with yours, just my $0.02. Another suggestion would be check the inline fuse, or the fuse on the amplifier.

well it turns out that one of my subwoofer wires burnt right through which i guess is pretty common with the kicker subwoofers , atleast thats what the guy said. wish i had found that out alot sooner. well now its time for a new sub and im kinda thinking alpine type R .dude i know has it and it sounds pretty good . i have an 400 watt ultra linear amp and he says he has the same so thats what im leaning to. if any body knows of any better subs or have heard anything about this one good or bad that would be great , cuz i really don't wanna go through that crap again.

from what i've heard, alpine's are great. I'd just get the dual 4-ohm type-S. only like $80 each on www.etronics.com

I'm sorry, but that is not common with any driver.
