vtec, what exactly happens with ours?

So i know there are many different variations of vtec on diff honda/acura cars and i know how some of them work, or rather, what happens with the positions of the valves. I also know that it kicks in at 2300-3300 rpm on the 7th gens.

So what do ours do? staggared intake valves at low rpm? both valves open less at low rpms? anything happen with the exhaust valves?

Search effeciently.... narrow searches to just titles, search only forums likely to answer what you want, use lots of keywords... you find stuff very fast.

i read somewhere on here that our vtec is different, like we have 2 stages or sumthin. 2XXX rpm "gas" mode kicks in to save gas, and 4XXX rpm "power" mode or wutever. and the "gas" mode is why lx is little bit faster right off the line.

Why would the Lx be a little bit faster off the line if it has the same engine as the Dx??

I always thought that the VTEC has different engage points based on the gas pedal position and speed of the car. I heard that from the people who did the DIY VTEC light. Kinda cool technology there.

I doubt the LX is any faster at any point in speed or in rpm range. The Torque and HP numbers arent the same as the vtec at any point in the powerband.

I heard some ppl say that D17A1 has more usable low end torque than the D17A2

I'm fairly sure that isnt the case in the old VTECs
