left hand drive swap for and 01 civic 2 door ex
i am very excited but at the same time am very discouraged because i want to make my civic into a left hand drive configuration (as opposed to driving the car in the regular fashion on the left side) now i live in saint augustine florida and i only know of 3 or 4 performance shop in the state that can even begin to know what i am talking about! now what i am trying to say is this: is it legal, can it be done, if it can be done how hard is it, if it can be done how much will it cost (just a rough estimate of time and materials), and who can do it that is based in florida?, now anybody out there that can supply ANY info would be of great help and assistance.
You mean you want to put your steering wheel on the right hand side correct? Japanese style?
If so, why? You would need all Japanese parts off a 7th gen civic. Dash, axles, steering colomn, and the list probably goes on. Not to mention if you have auto door locks or auto windows you must get those as well for the right hand side as it is in Japan. I dont know of shop that will do this for you, but if you have enough money anything can be done. Good luck.

you want right hand drive. you car is already left hand drive. it is very hard to do because not only will you have to buy new trim pieces to accomodate the gauge cluster on the right, but the small things like the ecu and all the wires going along with it and the glove box on the right side will have to be moved along with all the pedals. you are probally looking at a job costing around $3k, or probally more, if you get it done right. then you will have to get new mirrors because the ones on your car are for left hand drive and are angled wrong fpr a right hand drive car. then you are going to have to weld closed all the original spots for the steering wheel and pedals. thats about all i can think of for now. but it is legal and is a pretty stupid thing to do since you are going to waste alot of money on all the small things.

You're gonna spend a FORTUNE on parts. My rough estimate - easily over $10,000. Think about it... you can't use your regular seats coz the control things are on the wrong side. So, to get seats from Japan is gonna cost a pretty penny - and that's for no name seats. If you got Brides or something, they're about $1,800 each USED. Then, you have to probably do a bunch of serious physical work to have the controls on the other side. That means your entire steering column and such is going to have to be moved over to the right side. Now, if you can find the parts for it, it'll probably cost just as much as having it custom done. You'd have to find a wrecked (from behind) Civic from Japan, and I'm not sure if there is any difference between the Coupe and Sedan, so if you have a coupe, you might be out of luck coz there is no coupe in Japan. Let's say you find that wrecked Civic, you'll still have to have it shipped over. That'll cost several thousand dollars, then you'll still have to switch everything out. You'll for sure have to have special wiring harnesses or some crap specially fabricated to match up to your car... blah blah blah.
If you want RHD, import a car. Switching would cost too much to be worth it. You could have the car running 12s for as much as it would cost to swap your steering wheel over.

I agree with what abmerop18 just wrote. Think about it this way...
A Kia is one of the least respected new cars made, right? Well even though you can buy one brand new for like $9,000, it'd cost you over $20,000 (probably MUCH more) to build one from scratch. This is one of those times it's way better to get the option from the factory.
I don't even wanna think about the warranty situation if you swapped sides.
