Independent Honda Care or was it Honda Independent Care. Anyways, they're in Tempe just east of McKlintock on Apache. They are very up front, honest, do great work, and very affordable. I've been going to them for almost 10 years and have had nothing but great service.
Nothing keeps a mechanic honest more than an informed consumer.
Personally, I am a mechanic, but there are always things I have to farm out. For example, I don't own a machine shop (though I recently made friends with one), so I had to have some items done by someone else. But I always got a good deal since I was in the know.
Transmissions are another thing. Too much work to be done only once. But taking it out and putting it back in are things that lower cost.
I have seen a lot of good information on this site. And certainly you should change your own oil. The benefits are better oil, better filter, and you can do it properly, since you CARE about your car.
