Hi, I am having this problem with my car and I was wondering if anyone have had the same problem before.
I notice lately, when I brake at low speed (when you break after you back up in the parking lot, when you break on stop signs...etc), there is this "clicking" noise coming out from under the car. Possibly where the engine is. It could be coming from the break itself too, I don;t know.
It is hard to describe the sound, it sounds like a lil rock hiting the car on the highway. Like a.....hitting of a metal noise....I really don't know how to descibe it. I didn;'t notice it before becuase I always had my windows rolled down.
WHen I went to check up last time, I told the dealer about it, but they didn't find any problem with the brake. So that's why I am posting here, I was wondering if anyone could help me out.
THanks!

yeah every morning when i back up and drive down my street, at this spot when i reach the stop sign it makes a loud tick! its always the same spot when i press on the brake, no other place... hummm...
I dunno about the Civics, but the EL guys have been complaining about something similar for quite some time...
For us, it's the rear calipers.... apparently the pads aren't seated correctly, and/or loose, and so everytime you brake, some part of the inner portion of the caliper hits metal.... For me it sounds like as if my entire rear caliper is LOOSE, and hits the rotor....
But...... civics don't have rear calipers
Could it be the fronts for you guys???
Solution would be to go to dealer and ask them to install shims behind the brake pads, but the downside would be you will be going through pads like butter. I left it along for like a month, and I no longer have the noise....
Could also be built up dirt between pad and rotors.

is it all the time at low speeds or just once after everytime you change direction? ie. reverse out of ur driveway, *clunk*, then forward and hit the first stop sign, *clunk* but it's fine after the initial one?
cr-v's have that problem.. has to do with some retaining clips or whatever...

yeah, like babychai said, when does this occur? is it only when the car is cold, or when it's up to running temp, or just happens all the time?
btw: do you drive auto or manual?

i have the same problem!!! but i hear when im breaking around 25 - 35 km/h! it sounds like something is clicking or popping on the rear driver side. and it's kinda annoying when i hear it.

babychai and SedanBoy: Basically random. Mostly When I back up on my driveway the most (my driveway is kinda steeper than normal drive ways) I don't think it has anything to do with the temperature, and my civic is an auto. IT doesn't occur all the time at low speed, but at certain situations (stop sign, backing up driveway, backing up in parking lot....etc.)
And the noise is coming from the front. I asked the dealer but they said thye didn't see anyhting.. >_<

it's probably something to do with the calipers like furball said...
but, rmemeber, is it all the time at low speeds in one direction? or is it only once after changing direction?

i think it's the pads moving around in the calipers.... you could try the shims that furball suggested.....
hmm.... let me go out for a spin during lunch (with the music off for once.. heehee) ... i'll see if i have the same prob......

babychai: ...umm..no it's not all the time at low speed...and it has nothing to do witht he direction...I am pretty sure....it has that noise even if I am just braking while backing up straight...
SedanBoy: you think so?....it does round like...something is...moving to places.......but what can I do now?.......the dealer doesn't seem to help..

i went out and drove my car around and tried all diff speeds of stops.... i can't hear anything in mine.... but keep in mind, i have a few things that aren't oem for braking so there might be a diff.....
i think i know why babychai is asking if the problem seems to be directional..... what i'm thinking is, if you were constantly going forward, the pads would be moved forward in the caliper when you brake most of the time..... once you back up and brake, the pads shift to the rear of the caliper and that's where the sound is coming from.... i'm not sure if this is the prob, but no harm in trying shims for the pads..... and then there's always aftermarket brake kits... heehee

if i'm not wrong, it's just a thin metal plate that they put between the pad and the caliper piston so the pad sits closer (if not touching) the rotor........
if it's accurring more frequently and it's annoying you, just bring it back to the dealer and have them check it out again.... just go for a test drive with the tech and try to point out the sound....

i asked because in the cr-v's (and the odysseys so i heard) there is this brake clunk problem for newer models...
and it has something to do with the calipers
and the fix was replacing some retaining clips...
sedanboy: check to see if ur cousin has that problem...
i have that problem in my cr-v and it didn't happen until a month later....
haven't gotten it fixed yet...
i think azimuthx did tho'...
