Angry Tranny Blown!!!

My tranny went last week...was simply driving and then BOOM..im pressing on the gas and all my car does is rev and rev....had to get my car towed to honda which cost me 210 dollars because my car aint under warranty no more....so I bring my car to Honda and leave it there and today i get the call from one of the Honda service reps telling me the problem and ...my f****** tranny is blown...gone...whatever you want to call it and he gives me a price of about 4500 to 5000 dollars to put a remanufactured tranny in....alright so i call my friend up whoo is also a mechanic and tell him the details and ask is this a reasonable price....and from what he tells me It is too much...i ask the Honda rep how much a brand new tranny would cost and he said 10,000 to 11,000 dollars....now am i going crazy or is this right? Anyway my tranny is screwed and since my car isn't even under warranty anymore I'm pretty much screwed.....

OMG ... there is no way a new tranny can cost $10,000. You may as well buy a new car for that price.

And a re-manufactured tranny should also cost waaay less than what that ******* is telling you. I'm not totally sure about this, but rebuilt trannies for a car like ours should be no more than $1500-2000.

Call other dealers and garages and see what kinda price they give you. If you shop around, I'm sure you can get a much better price.

So the guy from Honda is trying to rip me right? I knew it....The thing is my car won't move and I really don;t have the money to pay for it to get towed again...If i call other dealerships, do you think the guy form this dealership would lower it for me...or if I went to talk to the manager, he owuld have to wouldn't he?

Got a call-back from Honda today and guy tells me that a remanufactured tranny will cost me 2500 and he said instead of paying 5000 for it, he spoke to Honda and since i bought my car at that dealership, Honda agreed to pay for half and that all i'm looking at is 2500...well i just gave him the okay to do it so my car should be back by next week the latest...

Thats not a lot for a tranny to go. An auto (I assume) should go for 100K+ before acting up. I really think there's something wrong with the autos in these cars... I know honda put the Accord/TL/CL slushboxes on extended warranty, you guys should seriously work up a class action to get the Civic trannies covered as well. A lot of people have this ~50K auto tranny destruction thing.

Yeah the guy at honda said for a brand new tranny, it would cost me around 10k to 11k and he said that was not the way i wanted to go...so then he said 5k for a remanufactured tranny bbut the next day he called and said Honda was willing to pay for half since i bought the car form their dealer and that it would only cost me 2500....

My friend has a 99 civic ex and he beats the crap out of it. His tranny is better than new--maybe CVT is better at taking abuse?
