Geezes.. For some people a car's everything to them
Talking to my friend yesterday and he's planning to save up $5k to put a downpayment on a Lancer Evolution. He's really putting himself on the border. What if he crashes his Evo or something unexpected happens...
I use to think about doing something like this until I thought about the "what ifs"
I would've stopped him, but his eyes were glaring when we went to the Mitsubishi dealership yesterday. Didn't want to say anything to stop him.

The dog told me to do it

I don't understand what you're point is? So he wants to get a car that may be a litle expensive for him... big deal. At least he plans on saving, and he has something to daydream about when he's workin the 9 to 5... Not flamin, just don't understand what's so crazy about that.
I paid my car in full, just so I wouldn't get owned by a lease or loan. Better to pay off a car as soon as possible rather than having paid two times it's price when you're done with a lease/loan.
I started saving for a car when I was 12, but I didnt know which for. I got a job when I was 16. When the 7th gen came out in 2000, I made my decision.

5k down payment is like nothing, he's gonna be owing loads of money for the loan plus the high high insurance. thats gonna be like 800 or so just for his car a month. hope he's got a decent job.
Yup, like $500 - $600 a month on a 48 month loan. A bit cheaper of you go longer term...but if his insurance is high...Do-able if he has a good job. One of my younger brother's friends just bought an STi. He is basically working for that car.
I really hate financing. Paid off the Civic in full when I bought it (instead of putting 15 grand down on like a IS300 or something). Just hope that he has a stable income to pay for what he owes on the car.

to me, i think you're right, kenji, it's not worth going into debt over. if he starts now, it'll be hard to get out. that's the problem these days; people living on credit. *ghasp* the depression revisited. haha....ohhhh, the good ol' US History days *tear*

yup, its not too smart if you get a car you cant afford. you'll just run into financial problems later. a car is only a car when it comes down to it.

yep, its called being car poor... something I didn't want to be when I decided to go finish college. Got rid of my toys and now have a Civic...
Man, I'd like to be making 30k right now. I have 2 degrees and can't seem to land a job in either of my fields...
And living at home to boot!
