hi all, heres my problem. for the last couple of weeks my 2001 ex is making some weird a** noises. i think the noise is coming from the tranny, at least from the general area where a transmission is at. sounds like a turbo spooling up, like something circular is turning and the it speeds up as I accelerate. its not a whining noise but something more deep-mechanical/metal sounding. i also noticed a pretty decent lost in power in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear - and thats the 3 gears where the noise appears. 4th and 5th are fine althought i seem to hear it a little bit in 4th now.
what could it be? is my clutch going bad? tranny oil needs changing? help! i have over 55k on the car now...im clueless.

I have a similar problem on my 2001 EX Sedan A/T, though. When the tranny is going from 1st to 2nd, at around 4500rpm I can hear what sounds like a turbo spooling up/blowing air out the BOV. Kind of a weird noise, but it intimidates others
Oh, I think it's also a VERY bad thing to have that kind of sound....time to get maintenance

could be you burned up your synchros. Does it make a grunt
or grind sound when you upshift fast? If so, it is the synchros.

I don't shift, the car does Well, it's more of a whistle sound coming from the engine or something close to that... Yesterday I was out with my friend and cousin @ my cousins new house (vacant streets! NO COPS! 118MPH then fuel cutoff begins...). I was racing my friend in his A4 and of course I got burned, but after a few races I started to hear a weird AIRPLANE sound coming from under the hood whenever I got above 40MPH. Very strange...Could it have just been water in the engine?
