hey guys, i have the ACT xtreme clutch and i frankly hate it. when my car was up and running i would find that it would heat up very quickly and a fwe times i got stuck in traffic and it actually got to the point where it was slipping just b/c i was in stop and go traffic! The past few nites i've been investigating about clutches since no one really else has offered a clutch for our D17's yet and the answer was closer than u think it would be.
D16: has a 212mm disk with a spline shaft of 20-7/8.
D17: has a 212mm disk with a 20-7/8 spline shaft...BINGO!
it sounds really dumb but ANY D15 or D16 clutch will bolt directly onto our cars without a problem. I called Clutchmasters on friday to confirm it and after they looked up the specs they confirmed that the clutches are interchangeable......Monday im off to find a good deal on a Clutchmasters Stage 3 w/ Carbon/Kevlar disk which my friend has on his supercharged Si....after seeing how much abuse he puts it through and how well it holds up i would reccommend that clutch to anyone.

twice at the track my clutch got heated up enough to start to slip and i had to wait over an hour before i was able to make another run down the track. i cant wait til i dont have to deal with anymore.

at the time of the clutch install my motor only had 600miles on it so i had no choice to but break the clutch in properly b/c i was still breaking my motor in....i gave the clutch a good 450miles to break in which is 420miles more than i gave my centerforce in my DSM. the break-in doesnt have anything to do with it in my case. i just believe that i either got a bad clutch disk from them or it was poorly designed for our cars...either way i still think people should stay away from the ACT clutches for our cars. i have had an ACT in my DSM and i know they are a good company. in both cases the clutch didnt last very long for me however so this was their final chance for me.

Also, I aim to buy the center force and according to your post, you were pleased with it installed on your dsm, so i look foward to that.
if you want to spend the 400 bucks then the Clutchmasters Stage 3 pressure plate w/ the carbon-kevlar disk is the best in my mind. My friends Si takes a beating with it and after seeing that i have COMPLETE faith that it will be perfect for my car as well...Clutchmasters told me the clutch should support anything under 475 ft-lbs of torque which i dont think ill ever see.
you DEF did NOT break ur clutch in right.. or u seriously abuse your car.... cause i BEAT THE HELL OUT OF MY CAR.... i blew a hole threw my block so that should give u an idea of how bad... now i have a new engine, turbo, and act extreme clutch kit.... that never happened to me, not even close... its def a great clutch... its stiff not hard and very responsive .
OsOBooSTeD....you blowing a hole in your block doesnt have anything to do with how badly you beat on a car. that most likely just means your stupid and u thought u were "special" and cranked the boost too high or u missed a gear popped it. I used to own a 01' EX before i bought my 2003 and i had gone through 3 motors and 2 tranny's but so i know perfectly well what the car can and CANT take as well as how to abuse a car. I've abused things in ways that you cant probably imagine as well as probably done plenty more things than you have in a car. You have to also consider that i live in PA where there is plenty of hills and after sitting in traffic and having to slip my clutch for 20 minutes i would have to drive out of boost for 30-45minutes b/c that ACT would slip if i would build boost....never in any of my previous cars have i seen something like that. I need something that can be driven an hour to the track and hold up for 15-25 passes and not start burning up like that clutch did.
uhm just to FYI... i blew the engine WAY before i had a turbo... thanks. yea.
and dude.. what u need is to learn how to drive.. not a car that can handle that type of abuse..

welll.... this is my 2nbd car with ACT clutch/// NEVER hjad a problem.. maybe you just bought one too weak for your driving style.. i have a 6puck with the 11lb flywheel... NICE setup... i recomend it...
OsOBooSTeD...why dont u come down here and show me how to drive since your such an expert driver. have you been to classes at a real race track. has you friends and family attended skip barber training out in CA? do you autocross regularly? drag race regularly? i do....i own a 92' Talon TSi with more mods that you can imagine that i run at the track as well as a 300zx NA that i take to a SCCA autocross sanctioned event every other week to autocross. Dont go around assuming that i cannot drive b/c i am a very well educated driver except i've never had so much problems with one part on one car as i've had with that damn clutch. i may drive the car to its limits but i do so knowing that im trying to push the car to the edge b/c i enjoy it and thats how all cars should be driven. the 7th gen civics were not made to be race cars yet to be an affordable and economic way to get around and just because i dont like a part doesnt mean im not allowed to voice my opinion and that OH NO! im a bad driver b/c something fricked up. maybe you should learn to just lay off a little before you go assuming **** when you dont know me one bit......i wish you lived closer so i could challenge you to ANY event in a car so you can see who's the better driver...geez i hate some people sometimes
lol im not the one who went threw 3 engines and 2 trannys ..... and you should know like u stated, your obviously abusing the wrong car...and if you hate me so much.. then leave.. your the N00bie here not Me.
