is there something like "a/c turning on when defrost turns on" in 03 civic?
oneday i turned on the defrost and i felt the air was cold..
dont kno if my a/c turned on like other ppl's or just air outside was cold cuz it was at night..
but my a/c light wasnt on..

Thats normal. You can just turn the heat all the way up to compensate for the A/C. The reason it turns on is to dry the air coming into the car and prevent fogging. If this annoys you, there is a way to disable that:

Wait, are you saying your AC doesn't come on when you turn to defrost, and that you want it to start automatically? Can you turn it on manually then, while in defrost?

Most people actually don't want it to come on automatically.

But if you follow Adam's link, that sequence will toggle it both on or off depending on it's current setting.


EDIT: ... oh, and the answer is yes to your question: the AC (with a green light) is supposed to start automatically on defrost mode

ohh wait..sorry for the english but u two are misunderstanding my question..
first adam..i kno thats normal and i kno theres a diy about it of course i ve already read it..but i was wondering if that happens in 03 civics cuz my a/c light didnt come on and i felt the air was cold..
next ronin..i meant that my a/c LIGHT didnt come on so i wondered if my a/c is on or not cuz i felt the air was cold..and of course i dont want it to come on automatically..u said "the AC (with a green light) is supposed to start automatically on defrost mode" but my green light didnt come on..so it means that my a/c doesnt come on automatically on defrost mode..which is good..

With my 03 Civic EX, the AC light does NOT COME ON when I turn the control to Defrost, or Defrost with Feet, but the AC is clearly coming on, because the air coming out is much colder.

That procedure to disable the AC coming on with the defrost does not work.

Anyone else with a 03 Civic notice this, or know of a way to disable the defrost coming on? With my old 01 Accord, when I switched the climate control to defrost, the AC light came on, but I could just hit the AC button to turn it off. I'd like the same functionality with the Civic. Any ideas?

oh..so u got 03 civic..and ac is working without greenlight when defrosting..
same thing happens to my car i think..
and that procedure didnt work?

hmmm ... sounds like Honda may have changed some features for the AC/defrost settings in the 03 civics... maybe cuz they know too many people know how to turn it off now. Maybe some additional clarification is needed here (this thread is getting kinda confusing) :



This is how it works in my 01:

- with original settings, turn to defrost: AC and AC light comes on, and cannot be turned off if it remains in defrost mode
- after doing the DIY: turn to defrost, AC and AC light comes on, but now it can be turned off manually while remaining in defrost mode
- doing DIY again restores original settings: AC and AC light comes on with defrost and cannot be turned off manually



From what the 03 owners are saying, this is what's happening in their cars:

- with original settings, turn to defrost: AC comes on BUT WITHOUT AC light, and AC cannot be turned off
- and doing the DIY doesn't seem to do anything to change this

i found out that my a/c is not working at all when defrost is on..
nice..hehe
i thought it worked without green light but i think its becuz it was at night so air was just cold..

I finally got it to work.

Prior to doing performing the DIY, my AC light did not turn on when I turned the defrost mode on. However, the AC clearly was coming on, since the air coming out was cold.

When I first tried the DIY, it didn't work. However, I just turned the key to the ON position, not actually starting the car.

I just tried it again yesterday, doing the same steps, but actually starting the car, and it worked.

Now, when I switch to defrost mode, the AC light comes on, and I can hit the button to turn it off.

Yay!

i figured out that even tho i turn the defrost on, my a/c never turns on..it was like this when i got my car
