bigger piping, but nothing over 2.25" for N/A.

also, intake and a header will increase the sound.

dont take off the resonator because when you floor it you will get this whining noise when you reach high rpms, keep the resonator, most cat back come with resonators. A catalic converter will not increase the sound. only what cambo said bigger piping and header and intake.

^^ agreed. just a muffler is kinda pointless. gotta get the piping as well. Make sure you get mandrel bends as well.

go back to the muffler shop and replace your stock resonator with a blow thru type one. it will get louder but not that bad

Get custom 2.25 mandrel bent stainless steel w/ resonator. Get a header and a hiflo cat. Also an Intake to feed your new hi flowing exhaust. This combo will give you the best, sound. If you need louder take the resinator off...but it's F*in loud w/o resi.

I have 2.5" pipe back to stock Cat, with no resonator.
plus a Short ram intake.

It is not loud at all.
It's a 1.7 liter, it ain't ever gonna be that loud.

The resonator is useless, it is simply a second muffler, it restricts air flow, and cuases less gains. period, i have no clue what Raspy sound a resonator will avoid.

The bigger the pipe the higher the gains and the louder it will be. Period. Back pressure is a Myth. You can stick 5" pipe on your N/A 4-banger, and you won't cause any harm. you'll be one hell of a ricer but hey.

Your Catalytic converter is the most restrictive part of your exhuast, therefore it cuases the most loss of gains and sound. Boring out your Cat or getting a High Flow cat HELPS.

btw. i paid $170 for midas to bend the pipe and install the muffler. 2.5" fits like a charm, did a very good job for a good price.

Mandrel bent pipe isn't a necessity, just flows slightly better. and the slightly is SLIGHTLY. It won't affect you that much to not have mandrel bends. For the loudest most free flowing exhaust, put a set of headers for the EX on an LX/DX. Then mount a custom 2.25" pipe to them and run it straight back to the muffler with no resonator. That will be freakin loud.

Oh I had a nice long reply typed up and the computer crashed, here is the short version:

Under the car from back to front you have

tailpipe->muffler->(rear suspension)->resonator->long pipe->catalytic converter->exhaust manifold mounted to block.

The resonator is a pre-muffler so it baffles the sound before the muffler does. This is why when you add just a "performance muffler" or an axle-back exhaust you get a nice deep tone. Were you to remove the resonator it would sound more like a pissed off weedeater. The resonator is partially responsible for your backpressure too. With it removed you have better flow, but lose a lot of low-end torque. I'm not sure about cat-back systems since I don't have one but they should come with a resonator of their own design.

I ussually don't bash people.

But your a Moron

It's a freaking peice of steel.
If you think a $500 peice of steel is really better than a $170 peice of steel
You deserve to get raped out of $330

Also i had the same sh*t on my Probe for 4 years before i sold it

I've read a LOT of articles and dyno results, And i've never seen proof of backpressure creating low end torque. I know a little backpressure will get the exhaust flowing faster out of the engine, but even at low rpm, the engine is not pushing against anything to get rid of the gases, so slow moving gases can't harm anything.

this is a real tough thing to argue,

But even if your correct and SOME low end torque is lost (i won't give you a lot) our cars are high end performers, it's not going hurt, it really wouldn't slow anything under a 3.0 liter down, you have to have a lot more displacement.

Anyway just a thought, i'm not bashing you like the other dude, your not a moron. lol
