Cutting the Shift Bar
Right now I have the short shifter adaptor in my car, and I seen other peopl cut the shift bar, I just wanted to know if anyone out there has done, and does it feel any better, faster.....?? I mean it looks good, I mean I am going to do it, unless I find out that could go wrong.

i think cutting is wrong. the shifter will engage/disengage just as slow, and you will still have the same throw. the only change will be your hand position. i'd go with a revo racing shifter. your engage/disengage is reduced by like 40%, and your throw is reduced by like 30%. the shaft is 1.5" shorter. (that's what you want?) i got this shifter for like $75 on e-bay. i love it. they also make these little metal things that go on the cables to stabilize the shift, but i thought that was a waste of money. they sell for about $6-$10.
NO way i cut my shift bar 2 inches and its fine. i dont want to do it to short though because they make it long for a reason which is putting it in revease. mine works great and ill measure my shift lenght if u want but i think to short would be bad on a stock shifter. Dont worry about it just dont to to much and get a bolt thredder at a hard wear store and rethred ur shifter and buy a sick ****
have fun

have fun engage-disengage is the same
throw is the same
what a waste of time. (in my opinion)
don't be so cheap!
nothing is wrong with cutting the shifter bar, i cut the threaded part off of mine, i also have the short shifter, but the revo ss was too short for me, so i just cut the stock off at the bottom of the threaded part and bought and aftermarket shift ***, it took a minute to cut, just make sure u have a hack saw that is not dull, or just use a dremmel tool to cut if off, halla

it wont hurt if u cut it, and for all u guys going u can't screw on a shift *** ur wrong. there is such a thing as a tap and die set wich will let u make new threads, so u can put a shift *** on. if u want it just for looks go for it nothing bad will come out of it.
Ive heard that cutting the shifter throws off all the physics of shifting. I'm sure they make it a certain distance for a reason. Alot of short shifters arent actually shorter, they just change the point at which the shifter moves. Thats what I have heard. Personally i wouldnt even bother...short ones dont look much better anyways IMO.
i just cut the threads off of mine...and it was great. And it does actually shorten the distance that you have to move the stick...not by very much, but it does. Now before you start to flame me about that, think of it this way:
Set a pen or pencil on your desk, setting it vertical like a shifter. Grab the top of the pen or pencil and designate imaginary shifting points, or how far you want to move the pen or pencil from like a 1st gear to second gear move. Ok, now grab the bottom of the pencil, and move it like you are moving from first to second gear and watch as the top of the pencil or pen reaches those imaginary shifting points with much less hand motion and distance. Same idea for when you cut down a shifter stick. It might not be much, but it does help...why do you think the REVO is so short, if it didnt help and, then they wouldnt shorten it that much.

I cut and re-threaded my shifter. This along with the Neuspeed short-shift adaptor and the Kumosport bushings really changed things for the better. The cutting was easy, but the rethreading was tough. Had to file down the shaft in order to get the die around it, then there was all the cutting oil and the slow process of threading. If you go this route, just allow plenty of time, and be sure to prevent any metal from cutting or threading from getting down into the actual shifting mechanism.
