Question about a lot of lowered cars I see

I've noticed recently that when I see a lowered car driving down the road, it seems to have this "bounce" to it. It's like it's bouncing from front to back. I'm not talking about hydrolics or anything, just a little more bouncing than a stock suspension setup would do. But it's noticibly from front to back to front to back etc. as it's going down the street. I thought lowering springs were supposed to be stiffer than stock.

Is that what happens when you lower your car, or were the cars I'm seeing just lowered improperly.

If you've seen it you'll know what I'm talking about.

Yeah they are stiffer but that doesnt mean the stiffer the less bounce. Even if u get new shocks ur gonna bounce but just not as much. Once u drop it the factory smooth rides goes away. For a very comfortable drop go with some full coilovers like the Teins. Those ride pretty damn sweet and comfortable.

That's 100% true. New shocks don't solve the bounce problem. LOL!

ya bouncing is weak, but oh well. i love the look of a super stiff car go over a bump and there is no bounce, just a stiff drop, *dunk dunk* it looks so mean. like the expo 3 teaser with the spoon sports ITR going over a little bump. looks sweet.

Its the Shocks that are letting the car bounce. See, Contrary to theire names "Shock absorbers" actually absorb very little shock. Their main purpose is to Dampin the springs (Stop them from oscillating). Performance springs, Being stronger then stock, force the shock to work harder at stoping the spring from bouncing. So stock shocks wear out quickly when performance springs are used, and so the spring bounces more......... So if you're car is bouncing alot, then the shocks you are using are too weak for the spring rates of your car.........

Also, If the car continues to "bounce" or be rough, then you're spring rates are to high for the surfaces you drive on. either way, the stronger the spring, the stronger the shock has to be to control it.

My car doesnt bounce. I love Tein SS!!!! I have just the stiff ride. Its not bouncy, but very stiff. U feel the bump, u hit it, but it doesnt keep bouncing.

Its great.

Exactly, the shocks on the SS are tuned to work with the Springs, so no bounce......

If the car bounces like that it can be very ****ing dangerous. If your car is turning while going say... too fast, the front tires can lose traction when the front bounces back up, and you can literally lose control of your car and spin out.

On the other hand, there are some roads that just make the car bounce like that and it's really unfomfortable.

ya i dont have much bounce with my goldlines on stock struts. every so often if it is a really hilly (like a ton of little speed bumps in a row) road, then i get some bounce, but im not doing any "spirited" driving then so im alright.

That's cuz you're not on coilovers.

A lot of people don't like sleeved coilovers because they are the most common type of springs that will bounce like that. You get bounce for the cost of lowering the car how you want.

thats because sleeved coilover springs are much smaller and don't travel as much as regular springs... they also have a much higher spring rate

thats because the springs that come with sleeved coilovers are much smaller and don't travel as much.... they also have a much higher spring rate to compensate for the lessened travel (but you can still bottom out sometimes if you have weak shocks)

edit: sorry double post.... it said the first one didnt' go through, i guess it did... oh wellz

You could also call it, being cheap and not doing right the first time.
