Me and BMW, am i gonna get busted for speeding?
Ok, so tonite I was out around 11, and I'm driving on a two lane road, almost all dark, practically nobody else driving on it (speed limit ranges from 35-50). Then I see a BMW (later noticed it was a 3-series) a little bit up, so I speed up, just see if I can catch up to it (just something to do when I'm bored). Well when I started gettin close, he just kept speeding up and was goin about 100 mph, while I was goin 90 trying to stay as close as I could (this is through curves and everything). Eventually, he pulls over to the side of the road and lets me pass him, so I'm then goin 80-90 and he's right on my ***. What I'm wondering is, do you think it could have been a cop that's going to bust me for speeding? When I passed him, he looked like an older guy, and he stayed close enough behind he could have easily gotten my tags. This just got me kinda worried once I started thinking about it, so what's your guys opinion - just another car enthusiast or a cop?

You almost sound like an old guy driving a BMW is a coincidence.
lease:
And they can't bust you for **** unless you live in a super small town where everyone knows each other. Still, I highly doubt it. Obviously both of you shared a common interest. You're paranoid like a ****. If he was on your ***, he was most likely playing with you. Otherwise, you would've seen that red/blue light and that would say enough.
Stop worrying.
Go do it again.

haha, thanks everyone, i guess your right and i am just being paranoid. i was only suprised it was an old guy because of the speed/way he was driving, i think i will go have some more fun!
Define "old guy"? You would be suprised if you turned up at a BMWCCA meet sometime. Average age is usually in the mid 30s and I gaurantee they will outdrive most of the people on this board. Almost every meet is either an autocross or track time meet and these guys are NOT afraid of exceeding the speed limit on the city streets. Mostly because their cars have the power and stability to run rings around most cars on the road and they don't need modifications (but most of the time an enthusiast's car definately has some internals). Plus they try and keep them looking as stock as possible on the outside with the exceptions of suspension mods, rims, or a low-key body kit. That being said, don't lump the enthusiasts in with the "I want a Beemer so people will know I have money" crowd. These are the idiots that actually call them "Beemers" (an enthusiast will call it a "Bimmer") and underestimate what their car can do and then get scared and panic.
Sorry, I have been fighting the BMW stigma for so long with so many people...if you think that driving fast is a new thing that came out with Compact cars you need to realize that you are all continuing along the same traditions of hot rodders of the 50s, muscle car guys of the 60s etc. etc. There has been street racing in cars since the automobile was invented, this is nothing new with the exception of the platform/type of automobile being modified. The guys driving in BMWs just have a bit more money and are a bit older than the Asian Import crowd. Other than that, they have the same passions and love to push their cars just as much as the next guy.

Yea, it was dark so I didn't get a good look, but this guy looked to be about 50. And I know that going fast isn't a new trend, there's a bunch of muscle cars in my neighborhood, a lot of which are driven by older guys, and those things could kick my Civic's *** anyday (such as an old Z28 Camaro that sounds like an airplane when it revs its so damn loud). It just kind of suprised me because these are the kind of people that like to show their cars, but wouldn't drive them 100+ mph on the street. I'm just not used to seeing people with BMWs that actually drive fast, since the town I go to school in is full of rich people who just drive them to show they have money Those people should not be allowed to dishonor BMWs the way they do...
Oh, and on that outdriving note, I was pretty envious when I saw how his car handled the turns. He was a good driver, and easily took the turns at 70-80, while my tires were screaching as I went through them. Damn stock Firestones.

A good tire upgrade can do a lot for a Civic.
WTF? I hate to say it but you totally lost me when you said that. Explain how he would dishonor a BMW by taking it around twisties? A lot of old/rich people DO buy expensive cars more so for the image, yes. However, BMWs are made with the driver in mind. Their technology almost begs you to throw their RWD cars in circles. So much is refined performance-wise in beamers I personally would think it'd be a damn waste not to see what the car is made of and enjoy the things it offers instead of just dragging it around for the image. No matter how old you are, thirst is everything.

I really don't think he was a cop. I mean, cops don't drive BMW's....maybe in Germany, but not here. I know they do have them in Germany as cop cars, but I don't think this was the case. He was just some old guy, feeling a bit lucky.

Haha, SlammedBlueEM2, when I said that I was referring to the way the rich old ladies drive them slow all around town. I loved the way he was driving, its how BMWs are meant to be driven!
