it's a 17mm socket. make sure your socket drive is set up to drive the oil pan bolt counter clockwise. then just get on it.

i had the same problem....
my bolt is almost stripped too

here's the solution:
do not use a socket wrench

instead use the 17mm wrench

thanks for the replies peeps.
yea i went out and got a 17mm socket
the bolt was stripped so bad i couldn't fit the socket at first
so i hammered it in using the ratchet and then torqued the hell out of it and it finally gave in.
salvo and pepboys did not have my parts... they only stocked up to 2000 models. went to the dealer but their service dept was closed because of Labor Day. so i had no choice but to put the bolt back on.
anyways.. i switched to mobil 1 5w-20 synthetic oil, and the engine sounds quieter and feels smoother, or maybe it's just in my head. I was thinking about getting Quaker State but decided to go with the more expensive brand cuz i thought it might be worth it.

i heard someone say that we should change to 5w-30 for the cold weather because the oil might freeze if it gets too cold. Is this true?

The torque spec is 27 ft-lbs if I remember right... whats the big trouble? Take a 17mm socket, and turn it counterclockwise.
Now that it's stripped, you'll probably have to drill it and hope you can remove it with an easy out. Either that or grind 2 new flats on to it and use a box or crecent wrench to get it off.
5W-30 solidifies at something like -40 deg. F. I doubt you'll have a problem.

make sure you use a crush washer with the drain plug and put on a new one every oil change...flat side of washer should touch pan and round side should touch plug

lol . noooooo

Oil is petreloeum based. . it's not gonna freeze. .

However, it can and will get more consistant (thicker) when it's cold. So just be gentle on your car when you first start it . Give the oil a chance to heat up and flow better.

It's the same thing when it drains. . If you are draining it when it's hot it's gonna pour out of there really fast. . If your car is cooled down, it's gonna take longer to drain.
