need help a.s.a.p. - drilling gas pedal

I have sparco pedals, they have three holes down the center. I've looked at the back of the pedal, and all there really is is the rod that comes down and sits behind what looks to be a plastic rectangle thingy which the rubber attaches too. Am I supposed to drill thru the rod?
Secondly, the rod is right down the center of the stock pedal, not offset, so it seems like I would have to drill thru the hole thing, and the bolts they supplied me with are not long enough. Someone who has drilled there pedals please help!!!
