just wondering if while anyone was installing their hood pins, happened to crack the clear top layer of their cf hood...i just installed my hood pins and on one side, i over tightened a screw for the plate down a lil and 4 small cracks are now on the hood under the plate
. should i be worried about them?? they look like scratches on top of the hood, but will they get any bigger (like a crack in your windsheild or sumthin)?? and also, if it is bad, what can i do about it? thanks for any info guys..

hmm..intresting....thanks boost, if it is just resin, i can fill it...just gotta find out if its resin or clear coat now..., so how bout if there is a clear coat, anything?
I would add a little resin, wet sand with 320 grit, then 600, then 1000 and then 1500 and buff it out. you can cut and buff resin just like clear coat, just make sure to use good resin. West systems is probably the best, but its expensive.

Ahh but the question is what type or resin did vis use in order to match the color,
2) theres mixing temps, dont want it to dry with a brown tint now and for the most part i havnt seen a west system resin, only epoxys, and you cant mix epoxys with regular resign C, B and finishing, or vinly easters for that fact...
3) dont go down to home depot and buy there resin, VIS dosent use that cheep finishing resin, and you can tell the Quiality of it...not to metion it will dry with a waxy surface,
4) If the hood is really shiny then chance's r it has a clear coat over it and you wont be able to match that shin with resin, it will have to be cleared again, if its not cleard then you can do what tunedcivic has said,
well thats my advise, If you cant handle it dont mess with it, but for the most part it will keep kracking cuz the hood is under constant presure from the wind, pulling and tugging on it to fly up , so i say the cracks will get biger in time, try and fix it as soo as possible. Thats crazy that this should happen since VIS say you can drive a car over there hood and it wont crck......lol

You get what you pay for. Sure VIS is a cheap hood, so it's cheap quality.
I have a Kaminari hood. They are one of the best available on the market. Mine didn't crack at all with the install of hood pins.
BTW, did you read my DIY for hoodpin install? It tells you the correct way to do the work.

It is the hood's fault. Did you ever happen to ask what the "K" count of the hood was before you bought it?
K count = how many fibers per square inch
Most cheap companies like VIS have K counts of less than 6,000. Truly a great CF hood should have a K count of 8,000+....preferably at least 12,000.
This is what makes Fiber Images and Kaminari 2 of the top quality CF makers.
