Ok i recently took a trip to ebay and seen this thing for sale about adding 7-20 HP by advancing your timing with a resistor, you had to buy it for 15 bucks...wow $15 for a resistor and some instructions on where to put it...any ways this is what the instructions say..
" Its a little knows racing tip that you can unplug your IAT ( intake Air Temp) sensor and u will trick the on board computer into thinking that it's 32 degrees out ( creating a rich fuel mixture). the down side to this is the pcm realizes that there is no signal returning from the IAT sensor & will cause a SVS light to come one. SLP Engering has an override kit for GM (which sells for $75 ). And you get the same result for less. Useing an ohm meter we determined that the resistance going through the sensor was 3.3k ohms when the outside temp was about 32 degress. So the resistor acts as a jumper and returns a 3.3kohm load to the ECM ( by passing the sensor itself ). Returning the 3.3kohm will cause the ECM to look up the optmal air/fuel mixture temp ( when it wormer outside, this will cause a rich air fuel mixture ). a rich fuel mixture will help eliminate any potential detonation. In turn advancing you spark timing a few degrees resulting in a HP gain of typically 7-20 HP depending on the vehicle."
Well i just finished installing it and took it out for a test drive, ( IT DID WHAT IT CLAIMS ) , being that i do have an air/fuel meter i noticed the differance in the meter readings from stock and with the mod..as for the gains i would say about 5 - 7 hp. As of now I'm rolling on heavy as 18" chromies and its always difficult to get a good jump ...with this mod i was able to fill the difereance in pick up...
I'd say its wrth the buy....only takes about 15 min to install and I've had no problems with any sensor so far...
here's what you need ............ (1) 3.3kohm resistor @ 1/2 volt tolerance ( orange, orange, red, gold)
How to install ..
1) Locate the IAT (intake air temp) sensor located on the back side of the RUBBER BOOT between your throttle body and MAF housing and unpluge it. ( this sensore sits right next to the rubbor boot by the intake whole of the trottle body ) you cant miss it.....
2) With the IAT harness unplugged bend the resistor into a "U" shap and insert it into the plug ( not the one connected to the thrttle body......the plug)
3) with the resistor snug in the harness, just tape up the harness with electrical tape so that no water gets in there, and if you want do the same for the sensor connected to the thrttl body..
4) thats it your done
happy moding........

pretty much every mod you do puts stain on the motor and causes it to run differently cuz its not the way it was intended to run, uhh hate when people post such things as this, you dont always have to run it this way, its a resistor, come on it takes 2 sec to remove and take out to put backe to stock..
But i will try and get some pics out when i get the chance...

will get them out asap, na na not getting mad, its just that every one is looking for that greater HP gains and when some one post up somthing good about a mod people r quick to put down and say I dont belive it and talk all this trash about it and it bugs the crap out of me, not saying thats what your doing, but untill you try u will see,
i think its pretty safe..benn driving around with the mod and the car seems to run fine, still tripping on the new meter readings on the air/fuel meter , yes i have been running rich, but the metter has never stood in rich befor at idle befor the mod...now it does..

Coolios. Easy way to boost hp. Cheap too.
I think I have at least 2 to 3 grand on mods on car --- my car looks neither tricked out nor runs noticeably faster -- LOL
If you are looking for HP, then I think this is a great cheap idea. =D

well i went off and bought the resistors from radio shack, 5 for 99 cents... i did notice a difference but i've only recently installed my rvm pulley yesterday so i don't know how much power i got from the pulley and how much from the resistor mod... but definitely with both i notice a big difference in acceleration... i was surprised too because 5th gear accelerates pretty good now too... but this is all from my butt dyno of course
i also noticed that my temperature gauge acts differently too... even though the car was just driven a few minutes ago, it stays really low until you start it and drive around a bit...
but before, even though i had my car parked for like 30 min, the engine temp was still like 1/4 of the way up in "acc" before starting....
and governer kicks in at 120 too (i think its more like 117 or 119)... 2k1 hx

i took mine out temporarily because my gas mileage dropped drastically with this mod... the gas prices are just too high right now and its taking its toll on my wallet... i keep it in my car and i'll put it back when i feel i need the extra gain or when the gas prices start dropping... it only takes a few seconds to do it..
