how to make a mesh grill?

question...what is the best way to make and install a mesh grill from chicken wire? i attempted to do it..but i could not get the mesh to stay in shape, especially around the edges. plus,i really don't want to spend 100 bucks on a mesh grill, if i can make it look decent with chicken wire that i can get for 10 bucks.

lol, ibtm.

Just cut it out bigger and attach it like that. No one will see the messy edges if you make it big enough. then just tie it down with those zip tie things

easier said then done...i tried cutting it a good shape..but wen i actually tried to attach it on...the mesh kept bending and getting deformed...there is no place to lay out the mesh on a trimmed piece to make it fit to exact size...except for in back of the stock grill, but i didnt want to place mesh behind that. i will upload some pix soon...its not a great job.

i made one and ya it was a B*tch to cut it out but after i did that i went ahead and bought some of that door things ( i forget what its called but its purpose is so that if u open ur door and lean it on something the edges wont scratch...its lika plastic thing that slides over the edge of the door) so ya anyways i bought that put it around the edges of the the mesh grill and it came out pretty good. I just fit it into the gril and used 2 thin wires (not noticible) that hooked on both sides and pulled the grill back. The wires were attached to the black plastic thing which goes accross the front grill...I'll attach pics

ok kool...ill look for that black plastic stuff..can i get it at home depot? the edges of the mesh really phucked up my car...there r so many scratch marks..not to mention, i got cut up pretty bad myself. anywayz, imma try that out...thanx. i have a navy blue civic and i tried spray painting the wire white with primer...didnt look too bad but once the wire bent...the paint started to fade and chip off.

i really hope you are not using real, true chicken wire. tho it would be funny.

the door edge stuff hes talking about you can get at walmart for like $1-2. i had some and it was made by BEL. i think it comes in regular black, chrome, and some other color, gold i think. at the wal mart here there is always tons of the chrome left....

cdmx - my grill got fubared after awhile too, but if i see a rabbit or opissum, i nail the gas and go after that sucker----WACK.
that may contribute

I hope you're not using the real thin "chicken wire" type stuff that you'd use for pets and plants (and **** fighting and Fight Club rings). The gauge is too thin. You need like a 10 gauge (sp?) wire to be worthwhile.

What about the metal that goes on some of the screen doors? Not the square grid plastic film crap, but the diamond grill metal stuff? I know it goes on doors, but I don't know if they sell it. (maybe to replace or patch a hole? Maybe?)

Worth thinkin' about...

here you go. I bought the mesh that you get from a hardware store for like roofing and stuff. Dimond shape.
