Lethal range of an air bag is 16 inches. I sit about 12 inches from the stock wheel.
Therefore, it will kill me.
As far as I know it is not illegal BUT you can not sell the car unless you put the air bag back in.

its not illegla to remove the steering wheel equipped with an airbag, it is however illegal to sell w/o it if it was originally on there

I will be re-wiring it from the steering column and mounting it behind the key slot of the ignition

It's on and it is part of a circuit. So I can't play with it BUT it will eventually burn out.
SRS now stands for Super Racing System

The typical air bag explodes to a distance of 16 inches and then deflates. Normally people sit back more than 16 inches and will contact the air bag as it is deflating adding cushion (front impact). If you are in the 16 inches there is a greater potential of fatality due to your air bag. I sit about 12 inches from it ... So, it had to go ... and the MOMO wheel looks great

Back when I put my Sparco wheel on, I called the DMV and asked them about the legal issues surrounding the removal of the air bag. Their official response was that you may remove the airbag while the car is in your possesion. However, when you sell the vehicle (unless to a dealer that accepts responsibility), you MUST re-install the original wheel and bag.

And there you have it.
