Header Controversy
I did a search
Everything I found was, well, unclear.
First off I’ve got the EX 5speed.
I always assumed that the HP header was the best, but some say Kamikaze?
It was confusing because people are changing other cuts to an EX.
I guess one is better for one cut and the other is better for - the other.
Then I see that there are 2 different HP headers, though I guess the one that also replaces the cat/down pipe is better. Witch raises another question that I didn’t have before, are the down pipe and the cat the same thing???? I didn’t think they were...
I have no emission tests where I live so that’s not an issue, I just want the best gains from a better header (bought impulsively before
), down pipe, and cat.
I would love some help, searching actually confused me more!

The down pipe is empty tubing.
The cat has stuff inside of it for polution filtration reasons.
So to answer your question ,the down pipe will given more power because there is no blockage (meaning no back presure) =ing more power.

Actually if you go to MMRUSA.com they have powercore headers and race cat for our car's. The cat also includes the downpipe that is welded to the cat, so you know it is the correct one for our cars. you should check it out.
Well.. i just picked up some info on this because i bought the kamikazi header and high flow cat (the real ones) from bigjoshracing... basically the setup i got was just the upper portion of the header, and a high flow cat.. the downpipe is the missing link between these two... the downpipe comes before the cat, at least on EX's. If you get the HP one, they give you the whole set, if you do individual pieces, then you'll have to get a downpipe from somewhere else, or get one made.
The hp race header w/hi flow cat is a 4-1 design, there is no "downpipe" it is all one piece. On the stock header you have the header itself, which bolts to the downpipe (collector)which i belive is welded to the stock cat.
The hi flo cat is a straight through design, freeing up the most HP. With the 4-1 w/hi flo you are losing some low end torque but when your in the powerband your getting maximum flow. The piping is much bigger than stock and i must say that it is the best performance mod i've put on. (unless your going turbo, then well you won't need a header) The hi flo cat isn't legal, but if you dont have emissions its great. If you do, you can have a muffler shop cut the stock cat off the downpipe, put a flange on it and you can swap out your cat's for inspection day!
And it will pass visual inspection, unless they actually unbolt it. (which they wont do) so if you get your motor piping hot before you get it inspected, it will probably pass w/ the hi flo in there.
good luck.
