my friend got the jet chip for his 01 civic. (this automatic used to be my car). he is having unbelievable knocking problems with it... before this mod, the car ran a 15.3 in the 1/4. sorry timeslip is not available today. now its knocking a lot and he is getting worried. how bad is this problem? anyway, he has a 3 angle valve job, p/p, high compression gx pistons (12:1) (those pistons also used to be mine) and a gude reground camshaft. he filled up this morning on 91 octane gas. any knowledgeble answer would be appreciated.

I'm no tech guru, but did he use Racing Fuel everytime he raced?

no he didnt. he alwayed used 91. 93 still knocks, a lil less though. only when you floor it

I read somewhere that with the JET ecu you need to use higher grade gas. Maybe they reprogrammed the chip wrong--the air/fuel ratio could have been set wrong.

93 octane with the autozone 104 octane booster doesnt knock. problem solved... this is the fastest all motor automatic setup so far... you can say he is competing against our beloved black99vtec

What happens if he just puts the stock chip back in? If it works fine with the stock chip then it sounds like he need to have another chip burned by Jet. Maybe have the timing retarded a couple of degrees since it could have too much advanced timing which is causing it to detonate(ping). I dunno if thats even possible with our chips.. but yah never know.
