Are splashguards/mud flaps worth the money?
My dealer is having an in-stock parts sale this week, and before I shell out the cash I was wondering if anyone thinks slashguards/mud flaps are worth the money? Do they reduce nicks or anything?
Thanks.
Thanks.

no not really. They keep some crap off, but the part that hangs on the outside traps dirt between the guard and the paint, and that can't be good. In the winter, it may help since it keeps the muck off, but I can't see it as a full time thing. They're not really going to reduce the knicks and scratches... I had my splash guards on for over a year and there's still marks. They're pretty useless on rocks if you ask me, but they do have some effect in the snow. Just pull them off, clean and wax real good when you take them off.
My 2 Cents
I have "Splash Gaurds" on my 03 Civic EX , and I had them on my old 90 Accord.
They are not like they used to be but they do protect from sand , road dirt , pebbles. Not good not rocks , or tar .
The new ones don`t seem to be as long as the ones that were on my 90 Accord,
and they don`t say honda on the back ( at least mine don`t ) cut backs ?
If I bought another new Honda would I buy Splash G`s ?? YES any protection
is better than none !!!

There is no practical reason to install mudflaps any longer, galvanization and paint processes have improved so much that mudflaps are a waste of time unless you are just trying to keep your car a little cleaner.
NOTE: while I'm almost positive factory mudflaps do not require drilling, however under NO circumstances should you drill a body panel, breaking the paint and galvinized layers on the metal will practically guarantee you will have a corrosion problem later on.
