I see a lot of crap in this forum about mustangs this and that. A few things I need to point out.

A. Mustangs aren't "BAD" cars. They are from a muscle car Era, and are still decent. Realize it's the mustang that's still here, though the F-body (it's competition) died away.

B. Unless you're running heavy boost or a K20A2 and other mods, don't claim you beat a Gt mustang in your civic, because you didn't. Unless you met the world's worst driver that is.

C. I don't care how fast you think your friend's GSR swapped car with supercharger or whatever is.... it's no where NEAR going to touch an SVT mustang cobra. You know... the supercharged Z06 killers? Yeah. Those.

ZO6 killer lol YEA RIGHT. the svt is a bad *** car nothing coming out of japan is going to touch it but fact is it does a 12.9 sec 1/4 and a zo6 runs the 1/4 in 12.5 and the zo6 has a higher top speed.

i have been hearing alot of domestics cant handle and stuff like that well those ricers have never drove a car like the svt because those will rape just about every import on a track.

SVT cobra does suck, and Iv seen plenty of cobras get their *** kicked over on the WRX forum. SVT cobra is over rated, hell it doesnt even come with air condition, a stereo, or a back seat, its a stripped down car and still gets beatin by the ZO6... and I speak from experiance I have had the honor of driving both a ZO6 and a Cobra... at any rate... I dont care for either of them... for both lack one thing AWD.... *throws off his safari hat and runs into the woods happily*

the reasons i "dislike" mustangs

1. The base model V6 is ugly, heavy, not fast, just a torque hog, my friend has one and i got to drive it, it doesnt even sound that good
2. They are extremely overpriced IMO, for what you should be getting i think they are over priced
3. People who have them, especially teenagers who i go to school with think their V6 mustang owns the road and nothing comes close to them.
4. They are made by ford, personally i dont like anything ford makes, we've had 2 ford vehicles and one went through 2 power steering pumps, radiator and some other things, the other one got wrecked because the ABS didnt work and the brakes locked up which on a wet road slid into a tree

The SVT Cobra, GT, and Saleen are good, fast, cars. Dont get me wrong i would not talk down to someone with a SVT...i know my civic would never beat one, i just personally do not like mustangs...thats just me, im not one of those kids who wish he got one when he turned 16..its just my personal taste

The SVT and Z06 will probably be losing a lot of competition to the EVO and STi in A-stock this year. So you're incorrect that it will "rape" imports on the track.

And the SVT cobra stang has hit mid 12's with real world drivers, and is most certainly within range of being able to beat a Z06.

And nothing coming out of japan will "touch" the Z06 or SVT cobra? <cough>EVOSTi<cough>

YOu're thinking cobra R. NOT the new SVT cobra.

You my friend, are 110% wrong and you should never open your mouth again. The SVT Cobra DOES come with AC. It DOES come with a stereo. A CD player to be exact. Last but not least, it most certainly does come with FULL interior. Oh ya. One last thing to point out. The 03 Supercharged Mustang SVT Cobra IS in fact a ZO6 killer! I have experienced this first hand. Do some research before you open your mouth next time.

Personally I like the mustang, but s2000man01 you have to understand where the other members are comming from.

1. Its usually a mustang owner who comes on this board (and others) and start sh*t. I havn't seen and camaro or firebird owners act like such dumbasses.

2. Mustang owners usually think that there V6 mustang is the fastest thing on the road. While V6 camaro and firebird owners occasionally do. Its usually a mustang owner.

3. Mustang owners tend to pick on the imports even the GT owners are guilty of this. Too many times I hear "Well my GT will smoke your civic" im like "Well no sh*t". Some just don't understand that their 4.6 liter engine is 2.7 times the size of our 1.7

4. Some mustang owners are complete dumbasses and no better than the ricers they pick on. I have yet to see a camaro with a wing and bodykit, or a firebird with a GTR emblem.

5. People usually associate the car with the driver. So after seeing enough jackass mustang owners its easy to assume that most mustang owners are jackasses, althought that isn't completely true.

A few years ago I completely hated mustangs, every mustang owner I met always talked about how bad they could beat my civic. They always thought they were so damn fast. But then i met some other mustang owners that weren't a**holes. One as i've mentioned before has a '67 GT350 with a 351, the other had a supercharged 2001 GT. And just a few days ago he sold the supercharger and had a T67 turbo put on. Now I am quite fond of mustangs and wouldn't mind owning one.

I have no doubt about where people are coming from dood. But that's not what I'm addressing. Just because the above things you mention may be true, that doesn't mean XXX ricer should come in here and go "I beat a mustang GT in my civic with intake". That's what I'm addressing. If people don't like stangs, that's their opinion and no problem with that. I'm addressing the BS crap a few select people here are trying to pull.

First off from a roll the Corba will destroy a WRX theres no arguing that, while it will walk away from an STi the base WRX doesn't stand a snowballs chance in hell. There are only 2 times a cobra owner will see WRX taillights. 1 is in traffic, and the other is off the line. But as you know a WRX doesn't run anywhere close to 12's even with the AWD launch.

The 2000 wrx and 2000 svt cobra are both 5.6 seconds 0-60. but i think the mustang is a bit slower on the 1/4 mile. but beating someone by a carlength isn't ownage.
ya the sti is really fast but try racing the cobra r. 0-60 in 4.6 and 1/4 mile in 13.2 stock.... not fast enough? how about the mustang saleen s3 ( i think... the one with twin superchargers.) that competes with corvettes.
but thats not the point. I agree with s2000man01. ya i'm new to this site but i have already seen quite a bit of b.s.
and thats not just for mustangs, you don't like a specific car?.... fine, it's not made just for you. but then theres the people that go around dissing cars that they don't know half a *hit about. i love my civic but i'm not exactly king of the streets.

Damn, this has turned into "I love/hate Mustangs" forum. But yeah, too much BS has been going around. Since (atleast I think) most of the people on the site prefer drag rather than cornering/autoX, I have to say from a slightly organized race, there isnt much a Civic with I/H/E can do to beat down a 1999+ GT stang.

Yea i was getting the idea we were talking about a different car. Cause theres no way a WRX will come close to an 03 cobra no matter how good of a driver is in the WRX. It might have a better chance against older cobras

My beef with Mustangs is this, Build quality. See, I use to work on cars doing R&I (Removal and installation) for a body shop. if you want to konw what I'm talking about go to a Ford dealership and check out a new Mustang. Specifically the gaps on the body panles (Between the Door and fenders, the hood and fenders and the Trunk (Deck lid) and Quarter panles) I Guarantee that none of them will be even (Especially between the Trunk and the quarter panles, either the trunk will be on crooked, or one edge/corner will be higher/lower). Now go to a honda dealership and chek out the civic or accord or any other new car on the lot and look at the same areas. the gaps will be much more even and correct. The reason for this is because of quality control. when a car is designed, a blue print is created showing the "Perfect" build of that car. now no car is built perfectly to the blue print, there will be some deveation. Each car that comes off the assembly line gets measured at specific measuring points to see if the car is close enough to the Blue print to pass quality control.

Most Domestic mfgs, the most a car can deveate from each measuring point is +-7 mm. In japan and Europe its -+5 mm.

and example of what this deveation can do at its extream:
car Brand new (at the time) 2000 Ford Mustang GT. accedent: car rolled backwards over a rock and damaged the bumper and lower quarter panle. we fix the car and send it out for an alignment (to see if rolling over the rock had altered it) We get a call back from the alignment shop and they tell us that the rear end will not allign (Infact one sides wheel base is 1" longer then the other). So we thing "****" maby the frame is bent, so we thorugh it up on the frame bench and do some measuring and all the points are within that +-7mm. so this tells us that this Mustang came from the factor like this.

Thats why I will never own a Mustang let allone a Ford, or most Domestic cars. I've seen how the chassis and bodys are put together and its Down right dissapointing.

svt and zo6 will not loss any business to a sti or evo any time soon there is a HUGE CULT of stang and vette lovers and with the new stang and zo6 coming out they will simply be untouchable without spending big time money. can a svt beat a zo6 ? yea maybe if the zo6 driver was really bad and the svt driver was really good.

A. the Z06 and SVT cobra have very close 1/4 mile times. the average driver in an SVT will lose by very little to the average driver in the Z06.

B. You went from talking about nothing from japan will "touch" the Z06 or SVT, to nothing will "lose any business" to an STi or EVO. We're talking performance here... not sales.

C. You state the Z06 and stang will be simply untouchable without spending big time money. Same for the EVO and STi. Boost controller anyone?

i agree with wannabefast, its only a mustang if its a v8. i almost got a mustang, but the gas would kill me since i drive a lot. its would be a nice car to have though but it wouldn't be my daily driven car. and lets face it, mustang was built for speed. our civics, built for daily driving thats both practical and economical..hey that rhymes!

man a lot to read here...but ill just say what i can....first off....EVO and STI being a threat to the 03....hahahahahahaha....went to the track...the Great EVO(13.5 best out of like 4 EVO's with it running that time only once) 1 of 2 STI's running a best of 13.9 nearly losing to a WRX...and 1 out of 2 03 Cobra's there running the 3 times i saw of 12.6, 12.5, and 12.6...no ZO6's that day...but i have ran one before, he ran a 13.0 against me....but ive only seen maybe 1 ZO6 run under 13 at Fontana....and if u guys ever head over to some of those SVT sites....a few guys there have ran 12.5 stock in their 03's...personally i think the car looks good...handles good and is well worth all its priced up to be....i agree with that the attitude from the driver of the car would influence what u think of every car owner, anyone can be an *** when they are behind the wheel...where i live...the *******s mostly come from import drivers...but dont judge a cars performance until u see it in action...and whenever i go to the race track...the domestics are always running the faster times....and when we see all the great Import cars there....Supra's, RX7s, S2000's, NSX, etc...my friends and i get a lil disappointed cause we havent seen one of those break outta the 13s yet....or mid 13s for that matter....

With the evo already pushing 19.5 psi stock. I wouldn't advise raising that. But you don't really need to spend big bucks to hang with the SVT or Z06. A simple turbo swap and some better flowing intake and exhaust will result in impressive horsepower gains.

On paper it would look like the SVT would roast a skyline as its published horsepower rating is a mere 280 hp. It is well know that the skyline is severly underrated. While i haven't seen a true horsepower rating. Its has to have around 350 hp, because from a roll it will still walk away from the lighter 320 hp TT supra theres no way it could do that with 280 hp. The only way it could do this is by having more power. In the quarter mile it would be a very very close race as they both run mid to high 12's. While from a roll i think the SVT would slowly pull. Don't get me wrong the SVT is a very nice sports car, but the R34 GTR is no slouch. There are very few production cars that can claim they "smoked" a R34 GTR.

and heartsoul, just because you saw some crappy drivers, doens't mean the EVO and STi aren't 13 flat cars. They are. Dont blame drivers for the car.

First of all I read somewhere in this thread that someone heard about alot of WRX's kicking SVT *** on a forum...hello do you believe everything that you read...if so believe this:

A monkey was driving a 1.5liter 1943 Honda Civic down the road the other day and whipped this Ferrari on the topend.

Secondly I own both a 96 Z28 and an 01 Civic EX. I am 26 years old and have been building cars since I was 14...hotrodding is a family tradition. So to call me a dumbass would be stupid of you. Most of you were still in elementary school while I was building a 1969 Fastback Mustang from the ground up.

Next one of the old owners of D&D Motorsports here in Houston bought an EVO about two months ago...he has performed a couple of mods to the car and it only ran a 13.02 at best.
Also alot of my friends own WRX's with some minor mods and they do not run better than 12.5's.

I have seen a bunch of 03 SVT supercharged mustangs whop the life out of so many car here with just exhaust, chipped and a blower pulley. I have also seen a 96 Civic hatch beat a Viper--so don't start thinking that I am an import hater...I ****ing own and circuit race one.

I have mad respect for imports I always have...I remeber the first 400+ plus 89 turbo supra that I saw in houston back in 94. The guy who owned it was the head mechanic for Osaka. And the 300ZX that he would always do battle with was a beast as well. That **** was the best...those days were the best...people raced back then and they knew how to race, people set up and built their own cars...cuz they knew what they were doing. They did not race drunk, they did not bring guns to the street scene...they did not want to fight everyone that beat them.

Alot of owners of 4 cylinder imports are starting to sound like they have little man syndrome.

your not getting the lesson here man....not everyone is gonna get that 1 in 100 perfect time like whoever ran that 13.0 flat did...and those evo's and the STI had very few bolt ons, like 1-3 maybe....so they werent stock....but one of the guys who was driving the fastest evo there was an old man seemed to know how to drive it best outta the 4....not everyone is gonna get the best time outta their car cause not everyone is a real good driver...understand what im saying...

And the same goes for any car. You can never expect anyone to get the perfect times always. I never said that.

However, when discussing performance, don't make it sound like they are 14 flat cars, just because you saw crappy drivers. Otherwise, to me a Z06 would be a high 13 second car, becuase I've yet to see one run faster personally. So according to your logic, the Z06 is a high 13 second car.


Now that just sounds silly doesn't it.

No stock WRX is going to kick an SVT SC'd cobras ***. Whoever thinks so is mistaken. Even the STi won't take out an SVT. It'll give it a run, but nothing more.

However, FWIW, I have a friend with a WRX that runs 12.2. He put about 4 or 5 grand into it.
