From wut i see these days. most places don't really care what you wear as long as you can pay.
I've been to most places in Toronto and so far, even the hotel restaurants don't have dress codes.

Some people in hotels just wear jeans and a regular shirt, like i said, not too many well dressed places. If you're really hardcore, you can try those private clubs where you gotta dress up and pay 100 bucks / glass of red wine.
btw. why would you wanna find a fancy restaurant to dress up at??? isn't it a pain to wear a suit and tie to work already???
me and my friends came up with an idea to have all dress up and make it a formal dinner thing so i am trying to help pick which restaurant to eat

harbour sixty (near the harbourfront at yonge) looks like it's formal...
checked it out on toronto.com, but never went...
this may not be formal, but those dinners on the boats at harbourfront are cool too

Hi Fob, MiYuki here... for fine dining restaurants on a higher scale, may I suggest North 44 or Centro? These are some of the more popular fine dining restaurants with valet parking and formal attire is mandatory. Expect diner for two to range about $150 + for two easy. Location: Yonge St. There are other fine dining locations I can suggest but expect prices to be much higher if not the same. I hope this helps.
Marche is a casual dining location. As long as you're wearing clothes, you're good. This is the same for Le Biftheque.
Good Luck!

Expensive restaurants are for people who have money to BURN. Seriously. There's no point of going to them.
I went to this one joint once... $89 dollars for a fothermucking steak. That is *** rape. $12 for a greek salad?? The sad part was, a $25 steak from The Keg tasted better.
No thanks..
Honestly, goto a moderately expensive restaurant, and you can still dress up. No meal should cost more than $40 per person, with wine included.

Fob, go for Ruth's Chris, Richmond and University. It's a bit expensive, but you can get away with $60 a pop and a very nice dinner.
Failing that, I really can't suggest any place where dressing up formal is a necessity... Harbour Sixty on Lakeshore and Bay would be an alternative, similar price range.

Hey iamfob, if you're lookin for somewhere special to take that special someone, try Alto Basso for dinner in the upstairs, then some groovy groovy music downstairs....I love that place.
