Got a TICKET for the oh so quiet HKS exhaust
Got a TICKET for the oh so quiet HKS exhaust
So just yesterday afternoon me and my mom were running errands together and as we were on our way to the bank, a cop pulls me over and says that he is citing me for modified exhaust. I do nothing but what the officer says, I let him ATTEMPT to lecture me without interruptions because right off the bat, I knew this guy had not done his homework. I'm pretty sure most of you will agree with me that this guy is an idiot. For instance..
"Youre exhaust is chrome and slightly angled and THATS how I know it is illegal."
LOL, chrome exhaust and having it angled is for style officer McDouche.
"Even if you had purchased an exhaust system from your local Honda dealership, it still wouldn't be street legal, so I'm very positive you will be switching back to your OEM exhaust system."
First off, why would Honda sell illegal modifications AND equip them as a factory option on new cars? Second, he claims he inspected my exhaust. If he thoroughly inspected it, he would have concluded that there IS a muffler, and that there is no damage or leaks. Which is the only way an officer can give a TICKET to someone (that and if its noticeably over the 95db law)
NOTE: The officer also did not perform a valid sound inspection. So officer... exactly what makes my exhaust illegal?......
"I heard you approaching from 50ft away."
You can hear any STOCK car, hell, probably a stock PRIUS 50ft away traveling 45mph......
WHAT IS THAT!?!?
I cannot wait til my court date, I actually hope he shows up just so he can get pwnd for citing my wrongly...

the judge is gonna give that officer a big WTF are you thinking look in court lmao. wow, hks rear section, not even a catback. there is no way he heard anything, he just took one look at it and got all happy that he noticed an aftermarket muffler. i think there are only two states where modifying the exhaust (even if it sounds and performs like stock) is illegal. so just to be sure, what state are you in and make sure you read the law concerning modifications. im surprised mom didnt reach over and slap him for being so stupid.

A, if they don't know everything, and they're still a noob, they should be in communication with someone that knows or be with a more knowledgeable officer. They shouldn't be writing tickets for something they don't know about.
and B, based on my experiences with tickets and court and fighting them etc, I've come to the conclusion that, I believe that a significant amount of officers know how to interpret the vehicle code, but choose to apply it how they see fit. Rather then leaving us alone because we're not breaking any laws, they write us a ticket thinking that we don't know anything about the code, and hope that we don't research it and fight them... they just want us to pay the fine. Disclaimer, this is just my opinion.
