Question Adequate Muffler Required VC 27150a

So today I got a ticket citing (Adequate Muffler Required VC 27150a). I have a Greddy Evo exhaust. Anyone know if I can just go to a police station and tell them it is "adequate"? According the vehicle code, it is just for exhaust that has cutout or bypass. Any ideas?

Here's the full text from DMV:
27150. (a) Every motor vehicle subject to registration shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise, and no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device.

Thanks.

greddy evo is a muffler tho! that text is referring to rusted mufflers, or ones that just ahave a pipe. the sound rules vary by state. and i just saw you're in cali, they are really bad about modding there so just take it in and if it meets their noise test, you will be fine.

yea, that's what he cited me for. the funny thing is he said he gave me a ticket not because he think is too loud or it is not smog legal (i think all Greddy is smog legal). it is just because it is "modified" that he gave me a ticket. Pretty weird...

haha um no. that excuse only flies in a few states where it is actually illegal to change the exhaust that came from the factory, even if its an equivalent aftermarket model. but cali is not one of those states. dont feel too bad, hondaluver also got a ticket for his stock type-s exhaust in cali. those guys crack me up over there and i think its just desperation trying to get the ones who mod their car legally too.

Any idea on what I should do to get this resolve? I mean I don't think I can go up to a cop and tell him to sign off the ticket because this other cop gave me a "bs" ticket.

well theres supposed to be somewhere to go and have it signed off, like a testing center or something. you just explain what happened and they write it off.

uh, i suggest to put ur stock muffler on and go write it off at a chp. they wont charge you like the sherrifs station.

when i got my ticket for a stock 05 rsx type S muffler. i went the next morning and showed the cop at chp. and he was amazed i got a ticket for a stock mufffler... lol
